Welcome to Mexico! I am Diego a certified private tour guide in the Riviera Maya specialized in Mayan archaeology, nature and adventure. I was born and raised in Chiapas, Mexico, a place surrounded by natural beauties and indigenous communities. I remember that since I was a little child, I dedicated myself to explore the most beautiful corners of my country: rivers, waterfalls, archaeological ruins and climbing volcanoes. Now my job is to share these experiences with others and to raise awareness in preserving our natural resources. Life took me to many places, and 12 years ago I decided to move to Playa del Carmen looking for a relaxing life near the beach. It is beautiful to live here, surrounded by culture, cenotes and the most beautiful beaches of Mexico. Since I arrived here I have worked as a tour guide, a very noble work and I love it. I have guided tours to Mayan ruins, underground caves, Mayan communities, jungle tours with activities like canopy, rappel, ATVs, snorkelin and I had the opportunity to take the great travel writer Rick Steves on two amazing tours here in Riviera Maya! I have learned a lot about the Mayas, their flora, fauna, medicinal plants. I have even learned to speak their local language Maya Yucateco. Now I want to share all these life experiences with you through my private tours, taking you to unique places, giving you the best of the Mexican Caribbean in your next vacation! Jin wiquibaone waye mun xanta! (See you here soon!) -Degree in General Tourist Guide at INAH (National Institute of Anthropology and History) certified as Tour Guide in English, Spanish. -Studies and practices specialized in Mayan Archaeoastronomy. -Tourist Driver License. -First Aid course and Water Rescue. My vehicle can fit up to 13 passengers comfortably - please inquire for larger groups

Overview of your Playa Del Carmen tour

Discover Cobá, a magical site nestled among lakes and tropical jungle, home to the tallest pyramid in Yucatán 42 - meters Nohoch Mul. We’ll explore this ancient city on bikes or Mayan taxis, traveling along the historic white roads, Sacbeob. As we journey through Cobá, I’ll share captivating stories about the Mayan civilization and their incredible achievements in building this remarkable place. Next, we’ll visit an authentic Mayan community, where a local shaman, or Ah-men, will perform a traditional Mayan ceremony, sharing their rich culture and granting us permission to swim in a sacred cenote with crystal-clear waters. To end the day, enjoy a delicious homemade lunch prepared by a Mayan family I’ve known for years. This is my most authentic tour, offering a deep connection to Mayan culture while directly supporting indigenous families.

Diego is a fantastic guide. He does a great job of sharing his knowledge of Mayan history and culture. We’ve visited the Yucatán a number of times and already done a lot of the main tourist sites, but Diego was able to arrange a tour for us of more under the radar sites and it was great. We visited Ek Balam along with a hidden cenote that we had to ourselves and a delicious lunch prepared by a local Mayan family. The next time we’re visiting we will definitely be contacting Diego to arrange another tour. I would highly recommend him for your Yucatán tour/adventure!

What a wonderful day spent learning about Mayan history and culture! We loved the private tour and being away from the crowds. The lunch with Diego’s Mayan friends was especially delicious. The family was so kind to welcome us into their home and share their specialties. Diego and Felipe were a joy to spend the day with!

Diego guided us personably, expertly and professionally. His knowledge of the area's past and current history gave us an appreciation of the Mayan culture and the Yucatan throughout the centuries. In addition, Diego is conversationally versed on current and world events which contributed to the pleasurable drive. We also appreciated that he cares for the local population and supports their business, such as the small family restaurant at which we ate. Authentic, not commercial. We were the only ones at the cenote which was great and gave us time to appreciate the beauty of the waters. Thank you, Diego!

The sites (Coba ruins and Sian Ka'an biosphere) are absolutely incredible, but Diego takes the experience over the top. Diego is super knowledgeable and gives invaluable insight and context to what you are experiencing and genuinely looks to make your experience the best. He lays out a well-paced plan for your day, meets you promptly with a smile, and integrates with your family/group so easily. We booked two trips for our weeklong stay, and our main takeaway was that we should have booked more with him!

Hard to say which tour I liked more, but this one was truly unique. Coba ruins great opposite of Chichen Itza and worth the stop. The visit with the Shaman learning about his Mayan bees and then going through a cleansing ceremony was magical. And then to top it off, private cooked lunch with a local Mayan family. I have learned so much about the Mayan culture in 2 days with Diego and Erick- but they make it fun and perfect for anyone at any age.
