Master Tokyo's public transport in half day and visit hidden neighborhoods

Ken gave us a wonderful active tour taking public transportation around Tokyo! He met us at our ship at the Harumi Cruise Terminal and we took a city bus to a downtown neighborhood where we visited the Namiyoke Inari Shrine and the old Fish Market. We walked around old neighborhoods and visited the big Tsukiji Hongan-ji Buddhist Temple. We rode the subway to another neighborhood with historic and lovely structures. We also rode the subway to the Tokyo Central Railway Station where we caught the bus back to our ship. Ken was very accommodating and helpful—he helped me find a flower seller to buy flowers for our ship stateroom. I highly recommend Ken in Tokyo!

Ken was an outstanding tour guide. He was on time, courteous, professional, and because he spent a good chunk of his childhood in America, spoke English quite well - even better than some Americans do. He is a great choice for history and cultural tours due to his knowledge of those topics and his excellent English skills. He also gave a great explanation of the public transit system. We enjoyed our tour of the charming towns of Kagazura and Zoshigaya w Ken and I’d recommend the tour to anyone who wants to get of the beaten path.

Our first day in Japan and everything seemed a bit daunting, where do you even start with a city this size..? Ken gave us the perfect introduction, taking us to some great spots that we never would have picked out ourselves and away from the usual hoards of tourists. He made sure we were comfortable using the metro and trains, and how to navigate the stations. He took time to explain everything we saw, really helping us to understand what was going on around us and setting us up to really make the most of our stay in Tokyo.

Ken was professional, knowledgeable and convivial — an exemplary tour host. I highly recommend this tour for first-time visitors to Tokyo who want to get a good handle on the metro/subway system; I’m glad we did this the morning of our first full day in Tokyo. Since Ken’s tour, my wife and I have been getting around Tokyo via the subway with an ease we wouldn’t be experiencing if not for Ken’s tour. He also personalized it — with a visit to, among other spots, the Haruki Murakami Library at Waseda University — after I told him one of my favorite living authors happens to be Murakami.

Ken showed us areas of Tokyo that were barely mentioned in guidebooks but became the highlight of our trip! He also thoughtfully adapted the itinerary on-the-fly, accurately judging how engaged my teenage children were and what they might like.
