Hello and bonjour! (Le français suit l'anglais. ) My name is Yumi, and I'm a nationally licensed tour guide and interpreter based in Tokyo, Japan. I've guided tourists from overseas since 2009 throughout Japan, especially in the Kanto region, including trips around the Greater Tokyo Area (such as Kamakura), Mt. Fuji, Hakone National Park and the Nikko UNESCO World Heritage Site. I was born and raised on Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan's four main islands, and I lived in the Kansai area (Osaka/Kyoto/Kobe) for five years. I came to Tokyo in 1999 and have been here ever since. I love Japan and have lots of information about my country's history and culture to share with you. Hakone is the most popular national park in Japan. The view of Mt. Fuji and affluent natural beauty and hot springs are amazing! If you travel in Japan, Hakone is a must place to visit. Hakone is located in south-west of Tokyo, less than 100km away from Tokyo. You can enjoy nice view of volcanic mountains including Mt. Fuji, and excurtion and hiking surrounded by natural beauty. ****Mt Fuji is 60km away from Hakone. If you like to visit at the bottom of Mt. Fuji, please choose the tour of "Mt. Fuji & 5 lakes".
A truly extraordinary day! Yumi was warm, energetic and made us feel like we were meeting up with an old friend. She knew how to gauge all the times for train, tram, funicular and pirate ship and always managed to find us a fabulous view. We are so glad to have booked this Hakone day tour with Yumi ❤️
Yumi’s customized tour was a fun day exploring the area around Hakone, including the Volcanic Valley and Lake Ashi, and we even got to see Mt Fuji! She is personable and enthusiastic, a great conversationalist, she shared with us insights on Japanese life and culture, and she took lots of great photos of us to remember our times here. I would book another tour with her in a heartbeat.
Had a great day with Yumi, from the moment she met us at the hotel, to when she dropped us off. Not only did we get to explore Hakone. We learned about the history of the area. She also answered any questions we had about the trip or living in Japan in general, eagerly without reservation.
Yumi was very personable with good English and was well organised. The trip was marred by bad weather with no views due to rain and low cloud but the family enjoyed the trip despite this.
This tour was amazing! We had so much fun and felt like we saw things we normally would not have seen. Yumi is so friendly and especially knowledgeable about the areas in this tour. We were able to see so many things and ride many different train types. The pirate ship might sound touristy but it's not. It was on a beautiful lake. This is a unique tour - very well worth it! Highly recommend!

Example itinerary: • 8:00 meet at your hotel • 8:50-10:30 take Odakyu Romance car express train from Shinjuku to Hakone Yumoto • 10:40-11:20 transfer to Hakone Bus to climb mountains • 11:30-12:00 visit Hakone Shinto shrine • 12:30-13:00 Pirate ship cruise in Lake Ashi to Togendai • 13:00-13:30 lunch of local food • 13:30-14:30 Hakone Ropeway and trail in Owakudani volcanic valley. Eat black eggs which can extend your life expectancy by 7 years! You can enjoy nice view of Mt. Fuji subject to weather condition. • 14:30-15:00 take ropeway (gondola) to down mountains • 15:00-16:30 take a Funicular to Gora and take a mountain train and go back to Hakone Yumoto • 16:30-18:00 back to Shinjuku station **If you will stay in a hotel in Hakone, it is possible to meet in Hakone for a tour. Private car is available. I will make a customized tour. **If you would like to take JR Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo or Shinagawa to Odawara, customized tour is available.
