Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi, which are in an area of downtown Tokyo, are collectively known as "Yanesen", where an ancient downtown atmosphere still remains. The image of Tokyo is generally that of a super-modern metropolis but suburbs like Yanesen still retain an atmosphere of nostalgia. Yanaka-Ginza street, one of my favorite places, where I can spend the whole day sitting on an outdoor stool sipping bears, watching people come and go. Visit old temples and shrines, one of Tokyo's oldest Buddhist cemeteries as well as traditional shops selling Japanese snacks and food, traditional crafts and beautiful pottery, and soak in the atmosphere of Tokyo's past decade.
