I'm an Archaeologist and official Tour Guide in Sicily. I'm an enthusiastic and passionate person, and what I like the most is getting in touch with people of different nationalities and delivering my knowledge and passion about the complex culture of Sicily: Art, Architecture, Archaeology, Folklore, Traditions! We'll have look at the Messina Cathedral with its incredible bell tower which containing the biggest astronomical clock in the world, restored after the catastrophic earthquake in the 1908. Taormina, 50 km from the city, is an ancient town called "The pearl of the Mediterranean" because the beauty of its landscape and monuments. It was founded by the Greek colonists and It still preserves some significant records from its glorious past : remains of Greek and Roman theater and beautiful palaces and churches in the typical Gothic- Catalan style, dates back to the XV century. Castelmola, just above Taormina, is a charming hilltop village of Sicily , 500 mt above the sea level, which preserves the ruins of the Norman castle built in the XII century. From its famous "Belvedere" you can enjoy a stunning view of the Naxos Bay, Taormina and Mount Etna in the background. Walking through its narrow streets is like go back in time! Let's enjoy the main attractions of the Messina region and its best views together!
We had a wonderful tour with Manuela! She made sure to have us try local food and shops. We saw all the sites listed on our tour and she educated us on the history and culture of the area. We did not have time to do a sailing tour with her, but that sounds amazing. I highly recommend Manuela!
-I'll pick you up at your preferred spot in Messina and bring you to the Cathedral square, with a private transportation; after that we'll take the highway and go toward Taormina where we will do a walking cultural tour of the town visiting the ancient Greek and Roman theater and the main attractions; I'll leave you free time for lunch and shopping; -after your lunch break our driver will take us to Castelmola; - along the way to Castelmola we will enjoy the amazing view of the eastern coast of the island;- we will have a nice walk through the town until the beautiful Cathedral square and we will go to the top of the promontory to take look at the ruins of the Norman castle from where we will enjoy the stunning view of Mount Etna and Taormina - after Castelmola visit the driver will take us back to Messina and I'll drop you off at our original meeting point.
