Hello, my name is Manuela, I work as a licensed tourist guide in Sicily (southern Italy) and I am deeply in love with Aeolian Islands archipelago. Being a talkative person, I decided the university course "Foreign Languages and International Communication" was the right one for me. And I have never regretted this choice. Furthermore my master's degree thesis was about the travel literature subject: the Grand Tour across Europe, Italy and Sicily of course. I had the opportunity to boost my knowledge and skills by going abroad (Canada, England, France). Particularly, I spent one year in France working as a teacher at high school, thanks to an international project which allowed me to know a nice peer group from all over the world. I've learnt a lot from this experience and I'm still in touch with these lovely people. Finally my heart decided to come back to my beloved Sicily: an extraordinary place to live, admire and enjoy with all the senses. So I took the Tour Leader license and the Tour Guide license, being active in both sectors, in English, French, Spanish and Italian of course. At the very beginning of my career I've turned around Sicily accompanying people, usually for a week, as a tour leader. Now I mostly work as tour guide near the area where I live. I invest all my passion and professional skills in order to promote this beautiful island in terms of its history and geography, its art and architecture, its environs and cultural features. To know the past is the key to understand the present! I really love my job, I am sharp, good at communicating effectively with people, good at understanding promptly people's needs. Overview of your Messina tour
Approaching Messina, situated in between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ionian Sea, the town reveals its extraordinary layout, sandwiched between Peloritani Mountains and a natural harbour. Messina doesn't include only the city centre characterized by its outstanding astronomical clock, it includes as well the fishing village of Ganzirri with its two brackish lakes and the steel pylon situated in the easternmost point of Sicily that is the nearest to the Calabrian coast. From Messina, at only 30 minutes distance, there is the refined town of Milazzo overtopped by the imposing walls of its castle. Walking inside the castle of Milazzo means to experience a real journey back in time across the largest Sicilian fortified citadel. Drawbridges, walls, drop-down doors, donjon, towers, embrasures and loopholes will lead us to discover the most effective siege techniques from the Middleage to contemporary times. Your Messina tour itinerary
- Pick up in Milazzo (or Messina if you are located there). - A panoramic drive across the coast road called via Consolare Pompea, built by the romans in the 1st century BC, leads us to Ganzirri and to Capo Peloro, in the northest part of Messina (about 1 hr). - At noon, in Messina's cathedral square, we get enchanted by the complex mechanism that brings to life gilded mechanical figures from local history, civil and religious. - Lunch. - Drive from Messina to Milazzo takes about 30' along the highway. - Once reached the entrance of the castle, we will start our amazing walking tour from the most recent walls to the oldest and highest! Get ready for stunning views of Milazzo from the top of the castle (about 1 hrs and 30 min). -Drop off in Milazzo or Messina. *The castle is closed on Monday - In this case we have a walking tour along the Marine Protected Area of Capo Milazzo, a beautiful place in front of Aeolian Islands. *I'm more than willing to customize the tour following your requests and group size.
