I'm an Archaeologist and official Tour Guide in Sicily. Overview of your Messina tour
The Messina Strait, between the Sicilian and the Calabrian coasts, is one of the most enchanting spots of Italy. Crossed by winds and opposing currents, it has always been shrouded in legend. The meeting of those currents generates light whirlpools onto the sea surface in which the Greek sailors, anciently, used to recognize two sea monsters, "Scilla and Cariddi", living under the sea. The currents and the characteristic chemistry of the waters determine an extraordinary and unique ecosystem with a high variety of species. We will sail safely, driven by the wind, thanks to the experienced skipper and ship owner of one most comfortable and classy offshore sailboats of Sicily: "Mascalzone Siculo". We will anchor to dive into the crystalline waters of the Strait and learn the secrets of sailing! We'll observe Messina from an unusual perspective and we will discover its long history together. Your Messina tour itinerary
-We will meet at 9:00 am either at the tourist harbour of Messina or at the Neptune Fountain, which is very close to the harbour. -We will sail between the Sicilian and the Calabrian shores with our skipper who will explain the secrets of sailing on the Strait while we will enjoy just the sound of the wind. -During the navigation I will tell you the history of Messina and its legends. -We will stop at "Scilla" cliffside to swim into the clear water of the Calabrian coast. -We will anchor to visit the charming fishermen village of Chianalea and we will have a light lunch with a typical swordfish sandwich. -We will go back on board to explore the wonderful coves of Chianalea. -We will sail toward Peloro Cape (Messina) and we will have the opportunity to swim into the warm currents of the Tyrrenian Sea. -We will return back to the harbour around 6 pm. -There is the possibility to do the same tour by night, with aperitif on board at sunset and dinner in Chianalea.
