Benvenuti alla Dolce Vita! Brilliant licensed art and history guide, PhD, with two decades guide experience in Florence, the Cinque Terre, Tuscany, Venice, Rome, the Vatican, Pompeii, the Amalfi coast and Sicily - all the regions connected in culture and history, a combination of sea and land - I enjoy sharing my love for them with others. I'll plan your itinerary, arrange skip-the-line museum tickets, a minivan with private driver and a boat ride, show you the hidden beauties of Florence, take you to my favorite local restaurant and on the most panoramic hike, talk art, history, Italian life and politics, and can even cook for you a Sicilian meal. Pleasure in life must be holistic - and Italy is an ideal country for this. My tours of Florence are outstanding - my experiences of Tuscany and the Cinque Terre are sublime - my Venice is passionate like Casanova - my Rome is layered like a delicious cake - and my Sicily is breathtaking. I am driven by passion for local Italy, my home over the past 25 years. Here, I studied in Rome and Florence, worked in Parma, the Cinque Terre and Tuscany, and of course fell in love - in Sicily. It's this pleasure, careful research and local knowledge that I'm happy to share on tour. What to expect from my tours? Expect more and better! A watermelon popping out from my backpack in the middle of a spectacular hike, a memorable love abduction story from a Medieval monastery, a delicious seafood meal, a marble quarry worthy of Michelangelo, and wine tasting in the villa of Mona Lisa. Guiding is one of the most creative activities, where each guest is a chance to discover the place anew, adding a unique tour to each visit. I enjoy creating your custom itinerary, preparing every detail, adding local insight, taking you to places as varied as a panoramic trail above Portofino, a secret temple of Mithras, a private road of the Popes, a gondola shipyard, or a prehistoric village in Sicily. And in winter I indulge in researching new destinations and itineraries in Italy, now also official Vatican Museums guide license since 2025! For an even more unique and local experience, please ask my advice on where to stay, eat, and how to travel within Italy, share the interests, ideas and details you wish to be included on tour. The more I know about your taste and plans the better I can prep and serve Italy for you :) Welcome to the Dolce Vita! - Official art history guide license (800 hours compulsory coursework, state exam) valid throughout Italy including UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Florence, Venice, Rome, Siena, Pisa, Tuscany, the Cinque Terre, Portofino, Pompeii, Sicily, Umbria, and more!). - Official art and history guide license for the Vatican City including the Vatican gardens, the Sistine Chapel, Museums and St. Peter's basilica. - PhD (European University Institute) - The last guide still resident in the oldest part of Florence! - 20 years guide experience - Published book author (Oxford, Hart Publishing). I am a licensed guide, not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle, arrange for a private driver or public transport. I cannot service cruise passengers. My museum and city guide license is for English, Italian, Russian and French languages only.

Overview of your Florence tour

I have been fortunate to live in Rome in the past, study its ruins, its architecture, its gorgeous churches, art and history unrivaled worldwide. I return here often, with pleasure and suspense, for every time here is a discovery, surprise, breathtaking revelation. Whether you are in Rome fore a day, a year or a lifetime, seeing all of it is impossible - yet, seeing none of Rome while in Italy is insanity. For a first-time visitor, I recommend the Roman Forum, the Colosseum with full access, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps, and the Borghese art gallery. For a return visit, we can venture into the temple of Mitra, visit the Capitoline museums, admire the paintings by Caravaggio, or stroll on the Ancient road via Appia. The wonders of Rome are plenty with something for every interest and every day of your life. 60 DAYS ADVANCE BOOKING REQUIRED to ensure availability of skip-the-line tickets to the Colosseum and the Pantheon.

Our tour with Anna was an intense 3 days (at our request) of visiting as many POIs in Florence as possible: day 1 focused on the structures of the historic center, day 2 on the Medici palaces and gardens in the countryside, and day 3 on the artwork of the Uffizi, Pitti Palace, and Florence’s churches. The experience was genuinely outstanding—far beyond what we expected. We wanted to fit a lot into a few days and intentionally ignored the slow-paced dolce vita advice because we only have so much PTO and wanted to see as much as possible. Anna didn’t just accommodate this plan—she executed it masterfully, securing all necessary passes and tickets and pre-arranging private transportation for our countryside day. Every day was meticulously organized, and she was clearly well prepared on the history and stories she intended to share. When small hiccups popped up, she handled them swiftly without interrupting the tour. Because Anna planned everything so carefully in advance, we experienced things we wouldn’t even have known to request. She secured tickets to notoriously elusive places, including Michelangelo’s Secret Room and the Vasari Corridor, both made even better by her rich background commentary. One of the most memorable moments, however, was surprisingly simple: after an intense hike through the Boboli Gardens, we stopped in a park to try fresh, perfectly ripe oranges. Having Anna as a guide also meant we could explore Florence deeply instead of wandering around with our heads buried in Google Maps like many tourists. She always knew the perfect route, the best vantage points, and exactly where to stand for great photos, allowing us to maximize every minute. Anna was also boldly assertive in making sure we had a great experience. She checked restaurant receipts to ensure we weren’t overcharged—and if we were, she argued the point on our behalf. If museum benches were full of teenagers glued to their phones, she politely but firmly reclaimed some seating. If someone drifted into our photos, she protected the shot. She also treated every ticket and museum pass like an investment. If a pass included multiple sites, Anna engineered a way to fit them in—even the ones we assumed we wouldn’t have time for or didn’t expect to enjoy. More than once, those turned out to be highlights. Anna also shared fascinating insights into restoration and conservation, explaining how Florence’s art and buildings are maintained and studied today. In short: Anna was brilliant, organized, passionate, and fiercely committed to making sure we had an incredible experience. If we return to Italy, we would request her again without hesitation and recommend her to anyone who wants to see Florence while maximizing their time.

Anna has a passion for art and history which really shines in Rome. There is so much to see and take in that it can be overwhelming, but Anna provides the context needed to appreciate the sites. She also was able to secure special tickets for sights we would not have been able to see on our own!

Anna was great. The Rome from Florence - Full Day Tour was our third tour that Anna guided us on. She was incredibly prepared and led us throughout Rome. She prepared for our request to see Rome in a day, which is no easy task. We couldn't believe her level of knowledge of Rome. We efficiently saw the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Piazza Venezia, had a great lunch, cabbed it to views of St. Peter's Basilica, stopped at the Vatican, Castel Sant'Angelo, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish steps.
