The Uffizi Gallery can be overwhelming - especially with the crowds! We had a private tour and Emmanuela focused on the most important works of art, expertly weaving us through the crowds and positioning us to see the works up close. We learned a few tidbits that stayed with us including the most important/expensive color wasn't gold (I won't say - so you can find out for yourself). She also regaled us with some stories behind the works of art. How one painting was commissioned, the gentleman didn't like what he saw as the painting progressed and wouldn't pay for it when finished. Later he changed his mind and even after offering substantially more than the original agreed price, the painter would NOT sell it to him. Instead it went into the Medici collection and is now priceless. I won't name the painter - again another tidbit you should discover for yourself when taking the tour. Definitely worth it!
