Highlights of Budapest Scenic Walk

Magdelena was my guide in Budapest. We toured the Central Market and stopped for lunch. Then we viewed Liberty Square with a memorial to the Jews killed by the Nazis. We proceeded to Parliament building for an audio tour. After Parliament we walked along the river to the shoe memorial to the Jews the Nazis killed next to the Danube where they made Jewa take off their shoes before shooting them and throwing their bodies in the river. The next day Magdelena drove me in her SUV to the Holocaust Memorial, and then to the Buda side to see the Citadel, a fort built on the top of a bluff overlooking the Danube. The statue of Liberty was at the top, ironic, this statue came from the USSR when Hungary was under Communist rule. Next, we drove to the Buda Castle, on the bluff overlooking the Danube and stopped for the lunch. It was then on to the Fishermen’s Bastion to see the Mathases church before returning to Pesh side of the river to tour the Doheny Street Synagogue and the Jewish quarter to have a drink at the famous Ruan bar. A very pleasant 2-days sightseeing, I found Magdelena to be very knowledgeable, warm and friendly with a pleasing personality. The guide, Magdaléna, was very helpful and professional throughout the whole experience – including both the tour and the communication beforehand. We were very satisfied with the tour itself – it encompassed all the important sights and information we wanted to hear plus a huge amount of exciting facts, both from the guide herself and based on our questions. What we really appreciated was Magdaléna's private touch, as she also told us some of her stories about her relationship with the city, which made the experience even more personal and believable.
