Welcome! I'm Cathy, and tour guiding is my passion and chosen profession. I want to show you how we live our life in this great (but small) country: Hungary. Born and raised in the capital Budapest, I used to be a professional musician (classical music) and played the cello in many orchestras. With my string quartet we performed, toured, and did recordings in North America and Europe. Having spent 7 years in Canada, I settled again in Budapest. Since 1993 I have been guiding individuals and groups in four languages: English, French, German, and Hungarian. I stayed faithful to art, so I guide theme-tours on fine arts: music, painting, architecture. I am happily married and the mother of two sons, so family life inevitably taught me how to put together a fun program even for your 6 year old kid. . . ! Visitors are usually astonished by the splendid beauty of bustling Budapest, and the contrasting peacefulness of the countryside. While showing you "the best of" Hungary, I will tailor your tour to your particular interests. So, if you take a tour with me, please, let me know any interests and hobbies, like: history, pictures, cats, cooking, modern art, music, engineering and Hungarian inventions, science, food, train, boat, embroidery, Hungarian economy, ice-hokey, etc, so we can plan your tours accordingly. All my tours can be done by coach, car, or using public transport and walking. I always hire car + driver. If you come with a big group of friends, family, or colleagues, I can arrange a minivan or bus. I hope to meet you here in Hungary! Growing up in one of the typical townhouses of the 7th district of Pest I had to walk 15 minutes to see a tree! However, the city always had lots to offer: the Park with the Castle, bookshops where I would spend my allowance, the mysterious streets of the Jewish Quarter, Buda with its breathtaking views, and all the exhibitions, concerts and theatres I visited in my adolescence practically every day. Come and join me: I'll show you the magnificent center of Pest and the old town streets of Buda Castle. Enjoy the striking contrast between the bustling PEST and the calm old town of BUDA. This tour gives you an overall view of the capital of Hungary, packed with Budapest secrets only we locals know about. If this is your first time in Budapest, and you are fit and adventurous, it's the best thing to do. I will also plan the rest of your visit with you, recommending sites where you don't need a guide - you will know where to go and what to do for the rest of your stay!
Katalin was amazing and her personal tour far exceeded our expectations. She is the perfect guide and we loved every minute of our tour. We enjoyed not only seeing the top sites in Budapest—but learning so much history about the country of Hungary. We were both entertained by seeing all the lovely attractions—and educated. We only had a few hours in Budapest—and Katalin made sure we saw the highlights (plus we had some delicious coffee along the way!).
Incredible experience! Katalin showed up at our apartment and started her tour right then and there. She asked specific questions about what our goals were for the tour and what we have already done. She adjusted so quickly when there were opportunities to make a slight detour. Her history, insights, knowledge and passion for Hungry is evident. We loved using public transportation and her ability to skip the lines as a tour guide for the more popular locations. She is the best!
Katalin speaks English as a native speaker. She is very knowledgeable about her city. She got to know our interests and passions. She was able to tailor the tour and her comments on the sides to our particular interests. At the end of the tour she gave us suggestions on additional tours. We should take throughout the city. She gave us recommendations for restaurant dining. We will recommend her to friends who plan to travel to Budapest

Katalin did a great job of showing us Budapest. We were on a river cruise, so we gave her what we would see with the cruise and she adjusted our tour so we did not duplicate things we were schedule to see with the cruise. She has a true love for the city and her knowledge was very informative for the history and special places to see and do. She made recommendations for places to eat and do for our extended stay in Budapest. We would highly recommend her if you want a fun and informative tour in Budapest.
Suggested itinerary: - Walk in the Pest side passing the Hungarian Parliament and Liberty Square: center of bank and government district with amazing architecture - Introduction to the typical 100 years old block of flats/apartment buildings Saint Stephen's Basilica - Get to Buda Castle Hill on foot of by bus. In the old Town: - cobblestone streets and cosy little squares, - the 800 years old Coronation Church - Matthias Church, - and the highlight view from Fishermen's Bastion I will tailor the tour for your interest.
