Since I'm married to a Jewish man and I also found that out I have some Jewish family members as well I became interested in Jewish history and culture a whole lot more than before. I dug into written sources and became familiar with a lot of personal stories about 20th century history at this subject. Budapest is truly special because it is the only city where descendants of real Holocaust survivor live. On this tour we are going to explore the 19th century Golden Age of the Hungarian Jewish population. This will be followed by talking about what happened in the 1920-s to the 1940-s: gradual deprivation of rights to outright genocide. Hungarians killing Hungarians. Terrible and weird. There is a lot left to be discussed about the dirty political games of Europe. Let's do it together! As this tour visits places of worship, please wear appropriate clothing (no shorts or short skirts, shoulders must be covered. ) The whole walking tour takes place in the former Jewish ghetto area, today's Jewish Quarter.
