Overview of your Budapest tour

If you want to discover really original sights from the Communist era, then I welcome you to my tour. I was born as that system was coming to an end, which means I don't have many personal memories. However, as a historian, I have studied a lot about those times and my grandparents lived through that time and have shared their memories with me. Through a historical presentation, I will share how everything worked: the methods and machinations of the Communist dictatorship and the typical Hungarian lifestyle. Was it hard? Was it not? Come and find out! I will share stories of those who tried to voice their opinion of the system and why they were punished, including those who were declared enemies of the people. Wondering what would have happened to them?

Noemi was a terrific host. Very knowledgeable and organized. Our tour started at A POKO BUGYRAl where we learned about the Soviets absconding with Hungarian citizens who were taken to work camps during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Noemi shared firsthand experience of her grandfather during this time. Next we spent time at Memento Park where statues of the era were taken to get them out of public spaces while preserving history even if the history is not pleasant. A lesson we can learn in the U.S. Next we went to Corvin Square - the place where the Hungarian Revolution began. Noemi was a terrific guide through the entire experience. Would hire Noemi again.

Noemi was an excellent guide and focused on life under Soviet rule which was our interest. Her English is good and she took time to explain the complex political and social aspects of the culture. Her description on the 1956 uprising and revolution was extremely interesting. This is a very good tour.

On my second day in Budapest I book this tour with Noemi. I was not disappointed, I learned so much about living in Budapest, when it was occupied by the Russian. Lots to see and do put your walking shoes on. Had a great time would do another tour with Noemi when I go back to Budapest.

Meet at the hotel or at another meeting point - Drive to the Monument of the Forced Labour's Victims - Drive to the Corvin Cinema, a little walk around the statue of 1956 - Drive to the House of Terror end of the tour here with an optional inside visit Opening hours of the places can change due to the season or a special holiday and the House of Terror is closed on Mondays. I can suggest alternative programs (Memento Park or Retro Museum) if you wish. If you have any specific questions or interests, please feel free to send me a message.
