Bonjour! Welcome to Bordeaux ! My name is Julie, and I was born and raised in the countryside of Bordeaux, surrounded by vineyards. I moved to Paris right after graduation to work as a licensed tour guide for some of the most emblematic French monuments and sites (the Loire Valley castles, Louvre Museum, Normandy, and more!). It was an enriching experience ! When I came back to Bordeaux, I decided to specialize in wine (how could I not), and I'm now a full-time guide, who provides private wine and History tours with my minivan in the Bordeaux region, but also other areas such as the Dordogne, french Basque Country or the Arcachon Bay. I've always worked in tourism and I am a curious person, so I keep learning every day. Thanks to my experiences in various French regions, I will be able to adapt to your interests and customize THE tour you need. I am a very attentive person and I really want you to enjoy your time here. So do not hesitate to ask me for advice! I'm really looking forward to welcoming you to my region so I can learn more about you. My objective is not to give you a lecture, but rather to have a discussion to make it more enjoyable for you (and for me!). A bientôt! In 1858, on a chilly winter morning, the young Bernadette Soubirous saw the Virgin Mary appearing while she was passing by a little grotto, along the river. These apparitions occurred 18 times and transformed the town of Lourdes into a world famous pilgrimage place. Surrounded by the Pyrenees mountains, the sanctuary offers a unique scenery where chapels and basilicas are well organized, so you don’t feel bothered by the crowd. While we explore this place together, I will tell you the story of the apparitions. You will understand the creation of the pilgrimage and the complete change that happened in this town, becoming an emblematic place on the Christian world stage. Whether you’re a catholic churchgoing person, or just curious and interested by the local symbols, this excursion will definitely put some spirituality into your trip.
The ride is about 3 hours by car each way. During your exploration you’ll be able to attend the mass (if you want to), pass by the Grotto to see the exact place of the apparitions, ending by the river, where Water and Light have a special role in Lourdes piety. Water fountains are in free access in the sanctuary, you can drink that water and take it back home. You can bring your own bottle, or buy one before entering the sanctuary. In the afternoon, you'll discover the places in town where Bernadette's family used to live. Wear comfortable walking shoes Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated Camera is recommended for capturing moments Sunscreen is advised for sunny days
