Suomenlinna Sea Fortress is Finland's most visited cultural attraction. It has gone through eras of Swedish, Russian, and Finnish rulers. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List as an outstanding example of military architecture from the 18th century Today it is a neighborhood in Helsinki with 850 inhabitants, a cultural center, and a recreational area for all visitors. All components of the bastion fortress are shown and well preserved. The contrast in history from balls and fine dining to the tragic prison camps in our civil war- those stories are heartbreaking. * Tour can be prolonged and added with Helsinki Highlights; please inquire about a customized tour * Cruise guests- private/public transportation from/to the port is possible with an extra fee. She drives really well and she even took care of our snack and water needs! Your Helsinki tour itinerary
Departure/return by ferry and water bus from South Harbor. Tour includes: Dep. with water bus 30 min. Return with a ferry - 15 min. - King's Gate, former parade entrance to the fortress - Kustaanmiekka sandbanks and artillery - Beach and Pipers park - Courtyard with Ehrensvärd's, the constructor's, tomb - Dry dock, the world's oldest still functional dry dock - Suomenlinna Church - Bastion Fortress system - The presence in Suomenlinna - Visit to Suomenlinna history museum (optional and self-funded) - Visit to Ehrensvärd museum (included in the tour) - Coffee break (or a beer in the local brewery) - Audiovisual movie, the history of the fortress (optional and self-funded) ** This tour might require some queuing for the ferry; therefore, we need flexibility with the timetable. Ferries depart every 20 minutes in the summertime.
