Half-Day Shore Excursion to Medieval Porvoo from Helsinki

Let's explore the medieval city of Porvoo together, marvelling at its wooden houses painted by Albert Edelfelt. As we walk through the town, you'll have the opportunity to savour a traditional Finnish pastry of the first ever Finnish national poet, Johan Runeberg, at a quaint 1700s café. You'll also get to try chocolate from a local factory with 150 years of history & shop for handicraft souvenirs from local artisans. You'll feel time itself slowing down thanks to your surroundings and landmarks from the Middle Ages such as the charming 1450s-built Cathedral, one of the few from this period in Finland. This private tour is suited for everyone interested in true Finnish character and is eager to walk along cobble streets away from the capital. This tour is of course customizable to your personal interests and wishes. -We'll start the tour after I pick you up from the location of your choice and embark on a scenic 45-minute drive to Porvoo. -On arrival, we'll visit Nasin kivi with a marvelous cityview from a hill (depending on weather conditions). -Then we'll cross the river by Porvoo's Old Bridge. -Next we'll go to Porvoo square surrounded by houses from 1763, where Finland's oldest City Hall is located. -Later we'll come closer to Simolin house and the so-called Porvoo Castle. -Afterwards, we'll reach Brunberg chocolate shop. -What follows next will be a visit to Porvoo Cathedral, from 1450s (depending on the day's opening hours). -Then we'll see the ex-lyceum where a ball was organized in 1809 for Alexander I. -At last, we'll go to Helmi cafe which serves the tastiest Runeberg's cake in the city, (highly recommended if you'd like to try it!) -Finally, enriched by the beauty and history of Porvoo, we’ll return to modern Helsinki on another scenic 45-minute drive to a be dropped off where you choose to.
