Finnish Sauna Experience

Finland is a country with more saunas than cars, 2.6 million saunas for the population of 5.5 million. Sauna is a centuries old tradition and an essential part of everyday life in Finland. For Finns, sauna is not a luxury, it is part of normal everyday life. A visit to a sauna takes you to experience something exciting, relaxing, and very Finnish at the same time. From the heat of the sauna you can take a dip into the cooling Baltic Sea or lake. If you visit between October-May the water is freezing cold and during summer months pleasantly refreshing. Ice swimming is a big part of a Finnish winter bathing experience. Winter swimming can sound a bit crazy, but many Finns find it healthy, calming and very addictive. Finns usually go to saunas naked, but do not worry - there is no pressure to do the same. In these public saunas it's required to wear swimwear in a sauna. Men and women also have separate showers and dressing rooms.
