My name is Tatan, a short name for Cristian. After working in a multinational company and having lived in Brazil and the US, I had a restaurant in Santiago for 10 years. I consider myself a foodie, absolutely passionate about food and the act of cooking along with friends and family members. . . they always find me in a kitchen. I have travelled to more than 60 countries and I realized that no matter where you live a Kitchen is always the best place to share and care for each other. Right after I sold my restaurant I stated a medium side Catering company called La Cocina de Tatan and started doing events and provide Cooking Classes at home. . . . that's when I thought about providing a local gourmet experience to tourists knowing I have got a lot to share. What I offer is a fantastic gourmet experience touring the best fresh markets in Santiago, Mercado Central and La Vega (seafood and vegetables), along with a cooking class in my premises at the exclusive El Golf neighbourhood and sightseeing some of our fine (not necessarily expensive) restaurant in Bellavista and Lastarria districts. Food and beverages are all included as well as transportation. In a 5 hour journey enjoy our hospitality and a local cuisine while enjoying a beautiful view of the Andes mountains, Manquehue hill and beautifull trees of Los Leones golf club. The menu I have prepared for you includes Oysters with our world class Sauvignon Blanc from Casablanca Valley, local Tapas as appetizers, Ceviche with our fresh fish we just had bought and then a main Mapuche dish called Charquicán original from the south of the country. Of course we will not miss dessert. . . this wil be assorted fruits of the season and sweets from our bakeries. It will be lovely having you home. . . Cheers to the good times! . . . If you are in love with seafood this is your tour, and we will decide on-site what the menu will be like as you are my customer! Chile has almost 5 thousand kilometers of coast on the Pacific Ocean and I want to offer you an amazing experience tasting our sea fruits and delicious fishes in Santiago's beautiful Mercado Central ( Fish Market), an iron structured building from the 19th century. Be amazed by the assorted shells and fishes we have in the Pacific, fresh from Valparaiso Port or from Puerto Montt, where the finest Queen Hake comes from (most of it exported to Europe). There are many dishes you may want to have for lunch like; Parmesan Clam dish, Sea urchins, oysters, Ceviche !!, excellent and fine fishes like Conger eel sauté with sea fruits or a wonderful Queen Hake with garlic and olive oil. . . . perfect !! and you will be my sous chef and learn on the run. Back in my apartment, I will offer you a full cocktail with a wine tasting activity. Please come and join me in this great journey.
This is a fantastic experience. Christian (Tatan) is a wonderful host. His passion for cooking is infectious. The fish market is wonderful and Tatan guides you through the choice of ingredients. His apartment is lovely with wonderful views of the city, green spaces, and the Andes. The cooking process was great fun and the meal was delicious. If you are looking for something a little out of the ordinary this is a great choice!!!
Our party of 7 chose this as our final activity after 3 weeks in Chile and while waiting for our evening plane. It was a fabulous finale. Christian is a welcoming tour guide. He is a fabulous cook. It was a learning event to cook with him. His apartment is not to be missed. Highly recommend any tours with his name attached.
Dear Tatan, What a wonderful tour this was! While the Fish Market was certainly interesting, it was the conservation and fun in your kitchen that made this extra special. The food was amazing! Christian was great! He took us to the fish market to select the things we were going to prepare and took extra time to explain the different types of fish and other sea creatures that were on display. We threw him a bit of a curveball when we told him we'd like chicken pil pil for our main course, but he said no problem and we stopped by another market to buy some chicken. At his apartment we made seafood appetizers and the chicken pil pil. All great and lots of fun.
We have traveled extensibly and have never or probably never run into some one like Cristian. We did his Fish Market Chef Tour and were blown away.. He's warm, funny, personable, well traveld and all around adorable.. If in Santiago you have to meet this unique man. We'll be back.
We would love to give 10 stars! We enjoyed the country tour with Christian so much we wanted to do another one with him. We were thrilled when he was available for the fish market and cooking class the next day, and it was fantastic. More great conversation, fun and learning. He is an excellent chef and teacher. The oysters, ceviche, appetizers, baked fish, and even sea urchin (!), and of course perfectly paired wine made it a delightful day in his beautiful apartment.
