If you only have one full day to explore the Chilean capital, you'll want to spend it with a Santiaguino who can cover everything from pre-Columbian civilizations to 21st-century politics, colonial architecture to the cutting-edge culinary scene. Good news: I will help you make every minute count. If you love to try different local favorites, I have a super confortable minivan that I can use in ours tour and I can also arrange bigger vehicles for a larger groups. Where to start? Santiago's eastern foothills, home to some of its most manicured residential neighborhoods, offer glittering views of the modern cityscape and a chance to discuss the substancial economic development Chile has experienced in recent decades. While you're in the barrio, check out one of my favorite local crafts fairs to browse the work of local artisan jewelers, weavers, and woodworkers from all over the country. The single most essential component of any first day in Chile? A stroll around the Plaza de Armas in the historic center of town. With the presidential palace as backdrop, I will share the story of the 1973 coup that culminated in a 17-year military dictatorship—and point out how the spectrum of authoritarianism has influenced Chilean culture and politics in the post-Pinochet years. If you're interested in human rights, let me take you beyond La Moneda to a residence that was used as a detention center for political dissidents, now a memorial to victims of the regime's suppressive tactics. Feeling peckish? Epicures will swoon over the Centro's fabled markets with their stalls of specialty seafood and produce harvested at many latitudes. A loaded "completo" is a Santiago rite of passage, and I knows exactly where to stop for the city's signature snack. He'll gladly weigh in on restaurants, cafés, and wine bars, too; just follow him to the creative kitchens of tony Bellavista or Lastarria. Are you a curious foodie? Do you enjoy tasting and trying After that we will visit the fish and shell fish Market, also known as Mercado Central. After that we will visit the Plaza de Armas, where the best 'completo' (chilean style hotdogs) was created and is still sold. , we will continue to visit the new and modern neighborhoods, where you will understand why Chile is one of the largest ice cream consumers in the world, by tasting two (or maybe three) scoops of local gelato.

Had some amazing food and gelato! There was more walking than I originally expected, but was fine and in and around Plaza de Armas. Pablo was very nice and so knowledgeable.
If you are in Santiago, do yourself a favor: book this tour with Pablo. Pablo is a great guide who will show you local shops and markets where the citizens shop and eat. Plus he will give you a great tour of the city and explain history and culture. He is kind, pleasant, and flexible if you should need a slight variation of the tour. Excellent tour guide for you!
The day I spent wandering through various neighborhoods of Santiago eating delicious local food with Pablo has been a highlight of my short visit to Santiago. He is so knowledgeable about the history of his home and a warm and generous host. The food was fabulous and I learned so much, about the history, current culture, and especially cuisine of this beautiful city. I am traveling solo, so I especially appreciated Pablos warm personality and fun conversation. If you are looking for a way to spend a day getting oriented in Santiago, this is definitely your tour whether you’re here just for a day (like me) or want to get acquainted before a longer visit. But don’t eat a big breakfast! Thank you, Pablo! Hope to see you again soon!
Pablo provided us with an incredible tour! It started with the best hot dogs in the world, followed with an interesting, extensive & delicious seafood raw bar ( which rivals anything seen in major world cities) and ending with gelato from one of the 25 best gelato makers in the world. Pablo knows the best places to go with the best service. If you are looking for an interesting & unique food experience, he’s your guide!
Pablo is an excellent guide. Arrived at our hotel in a very comfortable van. He told us to eat a light breakfast, and he was right. He took us to all local street food places with a variety of menus. All were fresh and tasty. Pablo has an excellent command of English and shared a lot about Santiago and its history. If we had an extra day we would have liked to try a cooking lesson at his home along with his wife. We strongly recommend Pablo your local guide.
