Chile's icon agricultural product is wine and precisely Maipo Valley, close to Santiago (one hour trip) is the most traditional valley producing wine in Chile, since Nineteenth century. Its weather conditions as well as its soil characteristics, make of this valley an ideal one for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Shiraz and Malbec varieties. Some of its most distinctive wineries here are; De Martino, Santa Rita, Cousiño Macul, Aras de Pirque, Aquitania, Undurraga, Perez Cruz, all of these wineries are not only some of the oldest ones dealing with the wine business in Chile , but also some of Chile very best wineries. In this tour you can visit 2 or 3 of them.

We booked a tour with Victor Hugo to drive us to the oldest wine region in Chile — 25km south of Santiago, hugging the foothills of the Andes. We visited 3 Maipo Alto subzone wineries (El Principal, Haras de Pirque, and Aquitania) all at 600–800m elevation. These were specific places we requested but Victor can take you to any winery. The Andes were a constant dramatic presence — we enjoyed a sunny, clear day the snowcapped peaks framed every vineyard view. This was boutique wine country — estates were working farms, tastings were intimate, esp El Principal and Aquitania. Visiting 3 wineries took the entire day and Victor shared his local knowledge with us, pointing out landmarks and explaining Chilean history, and sharing his personal knowledge as a tour guide for more than 30 years. We also enjoyed a local restaurant lunch, very reasonable and delicious and they made sure to accommodate gluten free requirements. I’d highly recommend booking Victor for any winery outing. He’s a very safe driver, easy going, and was always checking in to see how we were enjoying things. He even sang us a Chilean ballad. Note that each tasting costs separately at each winery, regular or premium pours, and also includes some small bites (cheese, etc) to accompany the experience. Highly recommend! We even saw lots of birds, and bringing along binoculars ensured we saw 5 soaring Andean condors, along with many other hawks and birds. Life list for birds, check! Bucket list for memorable experiences, check!
Our Maipo valley wine tour was well organized, with excellent communication with our guide in the planning stages before we even met. Pick up at the hotel was punctual, our day was very enjoyable, and our guide knowledgeable and personable. Altogether a great day on our first visit to Chile.
Victor put together a great tour, he planned it really well and his feedback was perfect in terms of the amount we could accomplish comfortably in our planned time. His advice on wineries was spot on, the last place we visited was just perfect and a huge highlight of our time in Santiago. Victor is very well-informed on all things Maipo Valley wine, and Santiago history - you'll be in great hands with Victor!
We booked the Maipo valley wine tour with Victor Hugo T on January 5, 2026. When arranging this tour I asked Victor to focus on smaller boutique wineries and avoid the larger, commercial places. He booked us incredible tours at Aquitania and El Principal wineries. Both tours were absolutely amazing! Our group with Victor was four people. At Aquitania we were joined by four others, so we were only eight people total, a great size for the tour. At El Principal, we were joined by only one other person, so an even smaller group of only five, perfect! After each tour we had wonderful, relaxed tastings of four different wines. On the drive from Santiago out to the Maipo Valley and back, Victor kept us entertained with the history and economics of the areas we drove through. Victor was born and raised in Santiago, so we had a fascinating time with him! Thank you Victor for a great day!
We had a great afternoon/early evening with Victor. We arrived from Montivedeo about 2 pm and needed a filler for our 11 hour lay over. Victor was very communicative and did what he could given our late arrival to make our tour interesting. Visited a great winery where we stayed too long chatting to fellow travellers and then a trip to the foot of the mountains and the Maipo valley before our journey back to the airport. He was great company and very knowledgeable about all things Santiago.
-We travel approximately 50 minutes to the maipo Valley and we take you to see how the vineyards are arranged, how wine production process is carried out and, of course the most important, to taste the so famous Chilean wines on its origin. - Depending on your choice, we go ; Santa Rita, Haras de Pirque and Perez Cruz located in Maipo Medio, or DeMartino and Undurraga located in Maipo Bajo, or you can choose Aquitania and Cousiño Macul located in Maipo Alto , Here you choose 2 or 3 of these wineries to visit , enjoying the Classic Maipo Valley on our way to them.
