Hi, I'm Álvaro — though most guests just call me Alvy. I've guided more than 30,000 travelers across Chile and South America over the past decade, and I've never lost one (yet — I'm keeping my fingers crossed). Before guiding, I spent years in hospitality, including Michelin-starred restaurants and luxury retreats, so I know what a well-run day feels like from the other side of the table too. What sets my tours apart is depth. I hold a degree in Communications and Journalism and a postgraduate diploma in Tourism Management and Sustainability — a combination that shapes how I tell Chile's story. I go beyond the postcard version: politics, architecture, social dynamics, economics, local gossip. I tailor each tour to what actually interests you, so no two days look the same. My own path shaped this approach. In my 20s I spent seven years living and working abroad — the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand — and coming home gave me a sharper eye for what makes Chile worth explaining well to an outsider. Off the clock, I'm usually reading, at a play or concert, out with a camera, or hiking somewhere I can't get phone signal. That curiosity is what I bring to every tour — cultural insight, personal stories, and a sense of humor that's occasionally dark but always sincere. I look forward to showing you Chile. Warm regards, Álvaro (Alvy)

Overview of your Santiago tour

Discover Santiago on a private half-day tour blending sweeping views, colonial history, and local color. Ride the cable car to the summit of San Cristóbal Hill, crowned by the giant statue of the Virgin Mary at the Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception, for panoramic views over the city and the Andes. Descend by funicular into Bellavista, Santiago's bohemian quarter, known for its street art and La Chascona, poet Pablo Neruda's whimsical former home. From there we drive along Alameda Avenue to Santa Lucía Hill, the rocky outcrop where Pedro de Valdivia founded Santiago in 1541, then stroll through Lastarria, a leafy district of cafés, bookshops, and art galleries. We finish at Plaza de Armas, Santiago's founding square, on a walking tour along the historic patrimonial route: the Metropolitan Cathedral, City Hall, the former National Congress, the Supreme Court, the Stock Exchange, and La Moneda Palace, the seat of Chile's government.

The original tour guide was not feeling well and was so kind to find another guide for us who arrived right on time and we had a great tour. Rodrigo Ossandon gave us a fabulous tour. He is so knowledgeable about his city. I had been to Santiago before and had just taken the hop on hop off. This was a 1000 times better. After a walk in the downtown area with so many beautiful old buildings and the square, we went to the cable cars to go to the top to view the snow capped Andes. Rodrigo was able to bring us to the front of the line since we were over 65 with some walking difficulties and then had them slow our cable car to make it easier for us to get on and off. He is certainly a gem and we were so pleased with our tour.

Alvaro is as good of a guide as it comes. He is a wealth of knowledge that goes beyond the standard amd obvious data you get out of a tour book. He is flexible, helpful, and friendly. Can't do better.

A great first-day intro tour to Santiago! Alvi is very knowledgeable about not only the sites, sounds, and places in Santiago, but also the politics, and he gave us great insight into both the historic and present day issues that shape and continue to influence Santiago. The tour, which took us to nearly all the neighborhoods, served as a launching point for our self-guided culinary adventure that followed. Thank you again, Alvi!

We have enjoyed our half day city tour with Alvaro. Time flies and within a short 4 hours, we learnt so much about the city of Santiago. Thank you Alvaro and his dinner Nicholas
