Hi, I'm Álvaro — though most guests just call me Alvy. I've guided more than 30,000 travelers across Chile and South America over the past decade, and I've never lost one (yet — I'm keeping my fingers crossed). Before guiding, I spent years in hospitality, including Michelin-starred restaurants and luxury retreats, so I know what a well-run day feels like from the other side of the table too. I hold a degree in Communications and Journalism and a postgraduate diploma in Tourism Management and Sustainability — a combination that shapes how I tell Chile's story. I go beyond the postcard version: politics, architecture, social dynamics, economics, local gossip. I tailor each tour to what actually interests you, so no two days look the same. My own path shaped this approach. In my 20s I spent seven years living and working abroad — the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand — and coming home gave me a sharper eye for what makes Chile worth explaining well to an outsider. Off the clock, I'm usually reading, at a play or concert, out with a camera, or hiking somewhere I can't get phone signal. Alvaro was a terrific guide to Santiago and we recommend him without any reservations. He explained where we were going, what made it interesting, and filled in many details about Santiago with conversation as we moved around the city. His choice of wine bar and snacks to finish the experience was excellent and we felt we had a wonderful introduction to the city.
Alvaro was wonderful. From fast and frequent communication before our arrival in Santiago to being 15 minutes early to pick us up at our hotel, fantastic. The tour itself was great, Alvaro had tailored it to fit out walking limitations and made sure not to rush. He is a walking encyclopedia on Chile and Santiago. Our tour was just what we wanted, an overview of the city and a gondola ride for the views from up there. A real added plus was our driver, Christopher. He drove the van, safely, comfortably, while Alvaro was free to provide running commentary, answer questions and devote all of his attention to us. This is real value added. Alvaro was the best. He was so helpful and accommodating and went over and beyond us. Highly recommended. Our driver Neda was fantastic too. So much easier to be dropped off and picked up at all the sights.
A perfect start to our vacation. Alvaro and his driver were timely and provided a wonderful overview of the city. He was very focused on my wife and I having a positive and enlightening experience.
