I'm a chilean, that was born in Santiago. After working as a mechanic technician at the airpot, I decide to work in tourism, because I realy enjoy to talk with people from another countries and cultures. What I do is to let them know the wounderful land that we have, in terms of knowledge teaching them about history, archeology, flora, fauna and architecture. My satisfaction is to provide my knowledge to the tourists that want to visit Chile. I also work for the US Embassy in Santiago to whom I provide transportation support as a bilingual driver-guide. As Chile is a wine producing country I manage a vast knowledge about different wine valleys, wineries and also the whole process of making one of the best wines of the world. I have been travelling through my country for many years, so I know the needs of de people. One of the great day-trips worth making from the increasingly is North of Santiago City it's nearby and quite smart seaside beach is considered one of the most beautiful in Chile, with clean white sand and forested hills. The charming little town of Zapallar will be the to stop for lunch to enjoy some typical dishes like pacific clams, seafood soup, conger eel, etc. The wonderful views overlooking the water from this vantage point, along the beach south of Zapallar in the village of Cachagua, has a good beach and faces Cachagua island, where the Santuario de la Naturaleza protects Humboldt penguins. Here you can see penguins, those little specks pictured on the rocks. You will also enjoy a relaxing hike along the path that connects these two towns.
What a great guide Leo! He knows everything. The path he took us along had beautiful ocean views, plus the island and really nice houses. Listen to his recommendation to wear good walking shoes. We had a great time and look forward to more adventures with Leo and his really fine driver and son JP!
Leo is an outstanding tour guide, very personable and friendly and knowledgeable of Santiago and surrounding areas. Our destination was an hour and a half drive north west of Santiago on modern highways to see the Humboldt penguins that inhabit Cachuga Island, a short distance off the coastal beach town of Zapallar. The island Is not accessible to humans, but a tour boat is available to take you close to see the penguins. Unfortunately, the ocean was too rough for a tour, but the area is very beautiful. One can walk along a coastal trail from the beach to Zapallar, maybe 20 minutes away, and also climb a hill to get an outstanding view of the town.
Beautiful area and very nice walk to the viewing area. Seas were too rough to take the boat ride but we still had a great day. Seafood empanadas were scrumptious!
My wife and I spent two days touring Santiago, Valparaíso, and Zappallar with Leo and his son, having so much fun along the way. They were both so attentive to our special needs and made our time spent with them extra special. We enjoyed getting to know their family, learn about the Chilean culture through its history, and tasting local cuisine. We highly recommend touring with Leo and ask him to get a boat to see the penguins.
Leo is fantastic. We ended our 10 day trip (after Torres del Paine) to go see the penguins and visit the oldest family owned winery in the region. Leo is very smart, well informed and worldly. His energy/personality were wonderful and he was very accommodating. We tried a great local restaurant and the winery was such a great experience. We were a family of 4, 2 adults and 8 and 10 year old. It was an awesome trip with Leo!! Muchas Gracias mi amigo.

We will meet you at the hotel and then we will drive about two hours North West of Santiago Between through the Coastal Mountain Range and The Andes Mountain. Then get into the Central Coast Driving through by a very exclusive Coast Town with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. Soon we get in Cachagua, we go for walk near by the Protected Island to see the Penguins and take photos. Afterwards we go for lunch in a local excellent restaurant in front of the ocean to have a better feeling of the area we going for a short walk by the beach.
