Hello! I’m Joaquin, a passionate ecotourism guide who creates tailored travel experiences for small groups. My goal is to help you discover Chile’s natural and cultural wonders in a way that feels authentic, professional, and truly memorable. Rather than offering the usual tourist-driven experiences, I share the places and activities I enjoy with my friends and family. Every journey is crafted with care, focusing on connection—both with nature and the unique stories of our country. My love for the outdoors began as a child, hiking for hours with my father. What started as a challenge quickly became my lifelong passion. This enthusiasm led me to study Ecotourism Project Management, where I specialized in sustainable tourism and conservation. Since then, I’ve dedicated my life to sharing Chile’s beauty while promoting its preservation. Today, I run my own ecotourism agency and tour operator, along with a nature-themed shop that brings people closer to Chile’s wild beauty. I guide and operate tours in Santiago and surrounding areas, the Atacama Desert, Patagonia, and more. From hiking, rock climbing, birdwatching, and horseback riding to cultural city tours, food, and wine experiences, I love showcasing the diverse landscapes and traditions of my country. When I’m not guiding, you’ll find me outdoors rock climbing, birdwatching, or tending to my garden in the foothills of Santiago, where I live with my wife and our three dogs. Our backyard has become a sanctuary for birds, and I love spending peaceful moments there, reconnecting with nature and recharging my spirit. Horses are another passion of mine, and I thoroughly enjoy guiding horseback riding tours that offer a unique perspective on Chile’s landscapes. I’m Joaquin, your local guide passionate about birds and nature. On this full-day tour, I’ll take you to explore two contrasting ecosystems near Santiago. We’ll start in Batuco Wetland, a peaceful place with over 100 bird species, including coots, herons, and the colorful Many-colored Rush Tyrant. After exploring the lagoons, we’ll head either west to the Mantagua Wetland to discover migratory waterbirds or up into the Andes near Farellones to spot high-altitude species like the majestic Andean Condor. Throughout the day, I’ll share my knowledge about local wildlife, habitats, and culture. We’ll also enjoy a relaxed Chilean picnic with cheeses, fruit, and wine surrounded by nature. Whether you are a passionate birder or simply love spending time outdoors, this experience is designed to inspire and connect you with the rich biodiversity of central Chile.
I’ll pick you up at your hotel in Santiago around 8:00 AM. We’ll drive to Batuco Wetland, where we’ll spend the morning walking along trails and boardwalks, identifying a variety of aquatic birds. Depending on your interests, we’ll then travel to the Mantagua Wetland on the Pacific Coast or ascend to Farellones in the Andes. At the second location, we’ll spend about two hours exploring and observing species unique to that habitat. We’ll pause for a Chilean picnic with cheeses, fruit, and wine. After a full day of birdwatching and photography, I’ll bring you back to your accommodation around 6:00 PM. This itinerary is flexible—I’ll adapt it to your pace and what you’d most like to see. For larger groups (more than 3 people), please contact me directly to confirm pricing and availability. I’m happy to customize this experience for private groups.
