Overview of your Santiago tour
Can you believe that The City of Valparaíso is the only city in Chile which has never been founded? A well established notion is that in the past, it was faster to travel by sea than by land. Before The Panama Canal was opened, the Strait of Magellan was the main route between The Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and Valparaíso was the most important port in Latin America. As a nationally registered guide, I'll be able to help you understand how and why certain names such as Gervasoni, Adtinson and Dimalow were so important for the development of Valparaíso. And prepare your camera because I'll be taking you through crazy streets, neighbourhoods with must-see neoclassical buildings and amazing viewpoints! I'll make sure you're able to feel what is like to live in "La Joya del Pacífico" (The Jewel of the Pacific) at least for a day. You can also opt to have lunch in a local restaurant, trying our typical food such as: "Pastel de Choclo", local sea food & fish or try our delicious "empanadas", among others!
Your Santiago tour itinerary
·Our tour will begin with a pickup from your lodging, after which we'll depart to Valparaiso. (Optional: Along the Valparaíso route, either going to or returning, we could also stop at a vineyard if you wished). ·After an hour and a half drive, we'll reach Valparaíso and begin exploring from the heart of the city, right at the oldest part of the port, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023. ·We'll then proceed to take the 2nd oldest trolleybus in Latin-America. My idea is that you can feel how a "Porteño" lives and tour the financial & commercial area of the port. ·Next, we'll walk through "El Plan", a flat terrain area in the city. ·After that, we'll take a funicular to get to the "Alegre" hill, one of the 44 hills of Valparaiso. ·Once in Alegre Hill, we'll enjoy a beautiful view of the port and take in the walls with surprising street art & graffiti. ·After this it'll be the ideal time for you to taste our local food. ·We'll continue discovering the city until we drive back to Santiago.
