The wealthiest chilean families of nineteenth century introduced in this Colchagua valley (2 hours and 30 minutes trip from Santiago) very fine varieties of grapes mainly from France, because weather, geography and soil characteristics here were very similar to France. So Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and the best Carmenere began their production and export from here around the world in the end of nineteenth century; first as bulk wine in barrels and then in very fine bottles of the awarded "Best Wine Region of the World" in 2005. Here you can visit three wineries, choosing from: Viña Montes, Casa Lapostolle, Viu Manent, Emiliana or Neyen.
