While I am a Chilean by heart and birth, I have lived abroad for over 20 years, in both South America and Australia, and consider myself a citizen of the world. I will lead you on a tour highlighting Santiago's most important historical sites, including the downtown area surrounding the Plaza de Armas and La Moneda Presidential Palace. We will visit Mercado Central, one of Chile's largest fresh seafood markets and stroll by the many bustling stalls to see the tremendous variety available from Chile's bountiful sea. Discover hidden barrios of Santiago including Barrio 18 and Londres/Paris, which were historically privileged neighbourhoods and home to Santiago's high society. Walk back in time to the XIX century and discover the beautifully preserved architecture of the city. Continuing through the cobblestoned Lastarria neighborhood, you will walk through the Parque Forestal and pass by the Bellas Artes Museum. Visit the historical Santa Lucia hill, where the city was founded.
Manuel kindly altered the programme to introduce new aspects of Santiago to us rather than repeating our visits to the markets. His knowledge on the history of the country is extensive, his English very good, and he was very patient in answering our questions. Manuel's introduction to Santiago's green areas was fascinating thanks to his knowledge of the trees and plants. Thank you so much - we thoroughly recommend you.
Manuel was fantastic - really enjoyed the tour and his driver was fantastic as well. No better way to see Santiago than with Manuel. Incredibly informative and liked the fact that he shared insight as a local versus the standard tour guide. We used Manuel for a wine tour as well and that was equally great. Loved our tour with Manuel! He has great knowledge of Santiago covering all our areas of interest including history, architecture, politics, pre Columbian art, modern lifestyle trends and culture. Charming and friendly, good sense of humor and excellent English. Also well traveled so fun to swap experiences. Our time together flew by and we would have extended the day if he didn't have another booking. We also appreciated the time with his driver, Mathias, and his efficiency and friendliness. Thank you!
Incredible tour, saw numerous sights, knowledge about all of them and more, visited the sights I had on my list that were open (Monday some are closed) and had a laugh at our misunderstanding in the end that came out well.
