My name is Ricardo Manuel and I was born and raised in Porto City. Although tourism changed Porto for the best (in my opinion) for the last 5 years, me and my family had to move out from Porto, into the bush, housing and living costs became very high and we made the choice that we should move out to the countryside. In this last year 2020 and even in 2021 with a pandemic, work just fell down drastically and we had to adapt. Making Port Wine, Muscat Wine and sometimes olive oil in a amatuer way since 2014, this hobbie become my family income. With vineyards and olives fields almost abandoned from the pandemic I rolled up my sleeves and went to work, asking neighbours and friends if I could keep their grapes and olives for harvest time, their answers were immediately YES Dividing my life between Porto and Douro Valley, me and my family feel completely safe, happy and relaxed with this new way of living. Ricardo was fantastic! It was a bit of a tough day since it was a national holiday and many things were closed but he made the city special for us. We even were treated to Port and Pastel de Nada while watching the regatta for St John's day riverside. He also took us to a very unique special lunch of suckling pig sandwiches. Really great tour. Ricardo picked up our group of 5 just outside the cruise port gate as promised. His descriptions of the people and places started immediately as he drove us downtown. Ricardo was a superb tour guide. He customized a hiking tour for our family into the Douro Valley and arranged reservations for a private lunch and wine tasting at a local bed and breakfast. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the region and also provided many great suggestions for us for the remainder of our trip. A wonderful day!
