My name is Ricardo Manuel and I was born and raised in Porto City. Although tourism changed Porto for the best (in my opinion) for the last 5 years, me and my family had to move out from Porto, into the bush, housing and living costs became very high and we made the choice that we should move out to the countryside. In this last year 2020 and even in 2021 with a pandemic, work just fell down drastically and we had to adapt. Making Port Wine, Muscat Wine and sometimes olive oil in a amatuer way since 2014, this hobbie become my family income. With vineyards and olives fields almost abandoned from the pandemic I rolled up my sleeves and went to work, asking neighbours and friends if I could keep their grapes and olives for harvest time, their answers were immediately YES Dividing my life between Porto and Douro Valley, me and my family feel completely safe, happy and relaxed with this new way of living. Then walk with me on these amazing streets full of centuries of history and wisdom, we find family businesses open with centuries of experience in trade and commerce, we will walk together through pedestrian streets to gardens and fountains, we will discover the history engraved in tiles and stone, through church patios you will see the best viewpoints and in Porto bridges you will make a connection with this amazing city !!! In the end of our journey a typical lunch in a tavern only with local food and amazing Porto cuisine, the olives with the traditional Portuguese breads, fish soup or the authentic "caldo verde", Portuguese best friend the codfish with numerous recipes, octopus rice, fresh sardines or the fried hake, everything served with a bottle of sparkling vinho verde, homemade desserts with lots and lots of TLC, last but not least let's relax with a Port Wine and enjoy the moment. Our tour with Ricardo was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable, personable, and very attentive to what we wanted to see. He made our time in Porto very memorable. If you want to have an excellent tour of Porto, look no further than Ricardo.
Ricardo was our tour guide for our Porto trip. Ricardo was an excellent tour guide, very friendly and knowledgeable about Porto. We started our tour by driving to the ocean. We drove around the Matosinhos area and viewed the huge white-sand beach, saw the new cruise ship terminal and stopped at the wharf to experience the sea air. Ricardo pointed out the forts in the area and the many seafood restaurants. We drove on to the Porto city center and toured the Torre de Clarigos Catholic Church, the Livraria Lollos bookstore (we were able to skip the line), and walked to a viewpoint with a beautiful view across the river to Gaia side of the river. We had a wonderful lunch and concluded our tour. Ricardo took into account our physical restrictions when determining how far we would walk. We would highly recommend Ricardo as a tour guide!
Ricardo was very accommodating regarding my mobility and ensured close entry to attractions. Very informative about history of the city of Porto.
Ricardo is as just amazing. From early communications regarding our preferences to recommendations for our next city’s exploration, he was the best. Ricardo was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He shared much valuable historical information and was patient with questions. He was flexible with plans and really just so much fun to be with. He planned a wonderful adventure for us in the Douro Valley after our vacation plans had unexpectedly changed without hesitation. We toured Porto and had a wonderful lunch. We highly recommend him for any type of tour and cannot wait to tour with him again when we visit Portugal!
Our tour with Ricardo was simply amazing. It hardly felt like a tour at all - just meeting with a good friend with a great love for his city. Ricardo was accommodating in every way one could possibly imagine. From reaching out straight after booking, to meeting us at our hotel with a welcome gift two days before our "official" tour was even supposed to begin, to providing us with local recommendations for dining and sites, and even being flexible with the weather to work around the rain to be able to show us everything Porto has to offer. It's no wonder my family and I fell in love with Porto given we had Ricardo guiding us through the rich history and delicious cuisine. We would absolutely meet up with Ricardo again and have him take us to the Douro Valley next time we travel to Porto - or just meet up to say hello to a friend with a glass of wine or a coffee and nata!
We had the most wonderful time with Ricardo. We enjoyed our time so much with him the first day we were lucky enough to spend the following day with him. Ricardo showed us all around Porto and nearby areas. We enjoyed all of the wonderful sites, food and history. We were two adults traveling with our 2 year old son. Ricardo made the adventures effortless. We hope our paths cross again in your beautiful country or ours! Thank you for the great memories :)
