Hello! I am from Chania and have a passion about history, culture and all things alike, from architecture to dances, language and food. As an extension of this passion, I love traveling, and think that getting to know a place's history and its people is what makes each trip a unique experience!

One of the things I like most about being a guide is having the chance to meet and interact with other travelers from all over the world at my home town, and help them discover the city and its surroundings in ways that even locals don't know!

Chania is a great place to get started, as here you can find monuments from all kinds of eras and rulers that passed through Crete, from Minoan and Mycenean to Ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Venetian and Ottoman. Another advantage Chania has in relation to the rest of Crete is its natural beauties (among which 42 gorges and 20 peaks above 2, 000 m), which never cease to amaze and offer something new at every corner!

Chania is a great place to start with an introduction to Cretan history! Its monuments span over 5,000 years, from Minoan houses and streets dating back to 3,000 BC, to the Byzantine, Arab and Venetian walls, the impressive arsenali (shipyards), mansions and cisterns of the Renaissance, Ottoman mosques and hamams of the early modern era, as well as modern buildings.
During this tour through the old city of Chania you will see and learn a lot about its monuments, explore "hidden corners" of its old neighborhoods, Christian, Muslim and Jewish, and get a deeper understanding of historic events, as well as valuable context from social life, traditions, religion and other local elements you might be interested in.

Chania Old City Tour July 13, 2024

I will pick you up from Chania / Souda and we'll head to Gavalohori, a picturesque village in north Apokoronas, founded by a Byzantine family in the 10th century. Gavalohori is famous for its old traditional houses, and its folklore museum, one of the first and most important in Crete, where visitors can see exhibits from eras gone by and learn about local arts and crafts, such as kopaneli, a kind of local embroidery whose tradition survives to this day.

Afterwards we will continue on to Vamos, the historic capital of Apokoronas, which is said to have been founded by Saracens from Spain in the 8th century. The village gained prominence in the late Ottoman period, when it became seat of the Prefecture of Sfakia in 1867. We will walk through its Old Quarter and have coffee or raki at the main square, before continuing on to Karydi - St. George Monastery, famous for its 12-arch olive factory, dating back to 1863.

Vamos and Gavalochori - Half Day Shore Excursion 24 July

I will pick you up from your hotel at Agia Marina and we'll head to Chania, a great place to learn about the island's rich history! The city's monuments span over 5,000 years, from Minoan houses and streets dating back to 3,500 BC, to the Byzantine and Arab walls, the impressive Venetian arsenali (shipyards), mansions and cisterns of the Renaissance, and Ottoman mosques and hamams of the early modern era.

We can stop en route for a coffee or a local soft drink, if and whenever you need it, otherwise the walking tour should take about 3 to 3,5 hours. Once our walking tour is over, we'll  get back to the car and head to Therisso, a beautiful mountain village, driving through an impressive gorge, one of the many in Crete. Once at the village, we'll sit at one of its tavernas for lunch, and taste some great Cretan food. When lunch is over, I will drive you back to Agia Marina, unless you prefer somewhere in Chania.
