Welcome to my profile! I am a native, officially licensed Guide for Rome and a licensed Educator in Didactics for the Visually Impaired, with a Doctorate in Art History and a researcher in Arts and Palaeography. The path to becoming an official guide here in Italy is NOT short and straight. I have dedicated a good portion of my life to studying and deeply furthering my passion for Italy, its history and its importance in shaping the world that we all live in today. I am eager to help you to see, understand and to fully grasp, not just the 'wow factor' of what you're seeing, but also its place in all of our histories. No matter where we were born. As a re-enactor I also love to show objects, tools, music, food, scents that may help you to touch, listen, visualize and understand habits of the past. So much has changed and yet, so little. This kind of sensorial experience is also a very good key for the ones with special needs. In fact I am also a specialist in the particular needs of the elderly, the visually impaired and those with mobility issues. Nothing needs to hold you back from what will be not just the holiday of a lifetime, but also a new learning experience. That is why I am more oriented toward the EDUCATIONAL side of the tour, deepening and discussing CULTURAL and HISTORICAL aspects of the masterpieces we will discover together. I lead small groups with a maximum of 8 guests, my tours last longer than the average so that you can feel fully engaged and free to ask whatever you want, and I like answering questions. I love to share my knowledge with those whom are curious and motivated but I am NEITHER AN ENTERTAINER NOR A COMEDIAN; as one my clients noted, "If you're just looking for photo ops and fluff, he may not be the guide for you. But, if you want to learn about the amazing history of Rome, he's your guide!". The key my tours is FACTS: so I DO NOT indulge in blood, gore and spicy gossip but just keep to HISTORY. Believe me: Rome has definitely much more to offer than just the Colosseum and the Vatican! You can learn much more about History and Art visiting lesser known, more exclusive treasures rather than the usual "must-see" blockbuster. For this reason in addiction to the classical itineraries I love also to suggest specific, tailored thematic tours lasting one or more days, in order to favor a full immersion experience of Rome's beauty. And that is surely the best souvenir of all. CREDENTIALS Scuola Specializzazione in Storia dell'Arte (Ph. Discover where in Rome the Apostle Paul spent the last years of his life! A fervent preacher of the Gospel, he was arrested in 59 AD in Jerusalem under the charge of raising turmoil: as a roman citizen he appealed to the Supreme Court in Rome where he was judged not guilty in 62 AD. Where did he live in those years? Was he a convict or still a free man? How could he evangelize more people if a detainee? Where was his prison located? What were his letters like? Where did he die? With this tour you will have the chance to discover the archaeological evidence of Paul's presence in Rome discerning facts from later pious legends. But you will as well the opportunity to visit some of the most fascinating although almost unknown monuments of the city: among them his PRISON, the magnificent memorial BASILICA OF S. PAUL built over his tomb.

Guide was very knowledgeable and was accommodating. He was professional and made sure that he not only showed us what was advertised but catered to our interest. He went above and beyond our expectations. We definitely recommend him and this tour.
Thank you so much for this amazing private tour! Giampaolo is incredibly knowledgable and passionate about history, our minds were blown by the amount of information and detail (in a good way!). Giampaolo shares historical facts and took us to evidence based sites, rather than taking people to tourist sites that are for tourism only and not founded on history. Thank you for this indepth look into the footsteps of the Apostle Paul during his time in Rome. We loved every moment! Thank you, Heather and Graeme from NZ.
This tour was incredible and Giampaolo was fantastic! We booked Giampaolo for the Vatican Museum Tours, In the footsteps of Paul and would have booked him for the Colosseum and Roman Forum except that our schedules could not align. As we walked through the different areas of Rome and then traveled outside the "walls" of Rome to the places of significance for Paul, he came to life and put color in so many black and white areas. This tour was our second day with him so by the time we reached the Colosseum tour, we looked very educated as we answered all the guide's questions having learned so much from him. :) If you are looking to just get a quick "check the box" tour and photo-op, you might want to look elsewhere. But he is very kind and very much a teacher so if you are interested in learning about Rome and its history, he is your guy and you will love it!
Giampaolo was an amazing guide on this tour. He shared so much history and stories. And he added perfect touches like maps of what places looked like back then compared to now, and the examples of what they wrote letters on before actual books. He even had cold bottled water available in the van. Our group of 6 really enjoyed this tour! My suggestion for the tourist: book this tour in the morning to avoid the extreme afternoon heat.
The guide was extremely knowledgeable very kind and patiently answered any questions. The tour was definitely worth our time and money
