Explore Naples your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Naples tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Naples for every interest, including:

History tours: Explore the Catacombs of San Gennaro with a private guide, then head into Napoli Sotterranea to walk ancient Greek-Roman tunnels beneath today’s streets. You can also pair a timed visit to Pompeii or Herculaneum with the National Archaeological Museum to see frescoes and mosaics where they were found and where they are preserved.

Nature and Wildlife tours: Hike up the rim of Mount Vesuvius for views over the bay and learn how the volcano shaped local life, or kayak and snorkel in the Gaiola Underwater Park to spot sea bream and submerged Roman ruins. For quieter trails and birdlife, a guide can lead you through the WWF Astroni Crater Nature Reserve.

Architecture tours: Compare the diamond-studded façade of Gesù Nuovo with the colourful majolica cloister of Santa Chiara, then study the Veiled Christ inside the Sansevero Chapel. Ride Line 1 to the Toledo and Università “art stations” to see how contemporary design transformed everyday metro stops, and finish at Teatro di San Carlo’s elegant interiors.

The historic centre is very walkable and Metro Line 1 plus the funiculars connect key areas, but hills and distances to sites like Vesuvius or the Phlegraean Fields can add time; if you prefer, you can book chauffeured tours or ask your local guide about private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Naples inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Naples

Base yourself in Naples, then hop to ancient ruins, islands, and cliffside towns on straightforward day trips that mix history with coastal views.

- Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius: Walk streets frozen by the AD 79 eruption, step inside houses with frescoes, then continue up to the crater rim for wide Bay of Naples views; this pairs archaeology with light hiking and suits history fans who like active days.

- Herculaneum: Smaller and better preserved than Pompeii, with intact wood, mosaics, and a compact layout that’s easier to cover in a few hours, making it ideal if you prefer depth over distance and want time left for a Naples evening.

- Amalfi Coast towns: Follow the coast road to Positano, Amalfi, or Ravello for cliff walks, lemon gardens, and sea views, with boat hops between towns easing traffic; your tour can focus on photos, short hikes, or food stops so the day matches your style.

- Capri: Ferry across for the villa ruins on Mount Tiberio, the Pizzolungo path to the Faraglioni, and Anacapri’s quieter lanes, with options for a boat circuit if seas are calm; this suits walkers, shoppers, and anyone chasing big viewpoints.

- Procida or Ischia: Pick Procida for colourful harbour scenes and slow strolls, or Ischia for thermal springs, vineyard lunches, and the Aragonese Castle, giving you an island day tailored to either laid‑back photo time or spa‑style relaxing.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Naples most travellers miss.
