Hi everybody, my name is Marcello. I'm specialized in high grade archeological and historical tours. Born and raised in Naples and belonging to a very old Neapolitan famiIy I've got the official license of Professional Tour Guide in 2000. Archaeological and historical tours are my core business but always based on keeping my clients "AWAY FROM THE MASSIVE TOURISM". I love my job. I love my country. I love giving not simple orientations but the "real essence" of every single spot you are interested in, observing all safety measures to reduce the Covid19 diffusion. My range of activities is the whole Campania Region, including all its archaeological and historical sites, like Pompeii, Herculaneum, Napoli, Paestum, royal palaces and museums. I'm also specialized in the painting of '500 and '600, like Caravaggio, Tiziano, Raffaello, Jusepe de Ribeira, Battistello Caracciolo, and all the painters who" mastered the light". In 2015 I've got specialization in roman currency as well. I do cooperate with the U. S. Syracuse University, and over the past years, I had interesting experiences while working with some International TV productions as expert in archeology and art. Not everybody knows that Napoli has one of the largest monumental concentrations of the whole world. With me as a local tour guide born and raised in Naples and belonging to a very old Neapolitan family you'll see the real Napoli. Over the last 25 centuries Greeks, Romans, Normans, Svevians, Angevins, Aragons, Ausburgs, Bourbons, Savoy ruled this wonderful city, leaving their personal cultural mark. Almost all the greatest Italian artists had been here at least one time working in some of the most important monuments. Noble's residences, Royal Palaces, wonderful Monuments and over 300 churches were built across the centuries, making Napoli one of the capitals of art. My unconventional tour means walking through thousands of years of history, Art, local food and traditions, to join some of the greatest Italian artists like Caravaggio, Masaccio, Raffaello, Giotto; also Greek and Roman art, but NEVER following the boring touristic itineraries. I will take you eating where the locals go.
Marcello is an experienced, knowledgable guide and provided an excellent experience filled with insight and good fun. There is so much to see and learn in Napoli, and Marcello made the history come alive. Hope to return to this incredible city and will be sure to book another tour with Marcello.
Marcello was a wonderful tour guide! He took us to places in Naples we never would have found on our own. The extent of his knowledge of the city and history of every part of the city was remarkable. I would recommend Marcello for any tour! Cento percento!
Marcello is a treasure. He was prompt and communication prior to the tour was easy. We explored so much of Naples - it was unbelievably hot and we walked everywhere, but we remained curious and rewarded with Marcello leading us. He's that guide that has a friendly rapport with everyone, especially those in the museums and restaurants. He took us behind a closed off area in a church and a table appeared at a busy restaurant for perfect pizzas. I wasn't feeling well and he whisked us into a cafe for iced tea, continuing to entertain us and I left ready and refreshed. He disappeared into a couple of bookstores, and at last, gave my husband an English edition of a book they had been discussing. He's a gem. I can't imagine exploring Naples with anyone else.
What a knowledgeable guide is Marcello! As a walking tour of Naples in which, other than a few churches, you do not go into any of the buildings, the tour is very much what you as the guest make of it – ask lots of questions, and Marcello will give you fabulous information; don't ask many questions, and the tour will be not terribly meaningful for you. Unlike Pompeii, this is not a tour where the guide can expound without stop on the site you are in but rather this tour gives you the opportunity for a feel of the multi-layered history of Naples. Be curious! As noted, Marcello was fantastic - knowledgeable, confident, unafraid to share his opinions and passionate about his city. His English is also superb. Even if you are not interested in the Naples walking tour, Marcello would be a fabulous choice for any of the other tours he offers.
We really enjoyed the tour of Naples with Marcello. There is a lot of interesting history there which Marcello explained. He also had a surprise snack and espresso that he wanted us to try and it was delicious! The churches and architecture are breathtaking. He took us lunch at the best Pizza place which was delicious. He was very considerate and caring with my 85 year old mother and my friends 24 year old autistic son going at a pace that was comfortable for them. Thank you for another great day.
Marcello led me on a superb tour of Herculaneum. This is my second tour with Marcello. He is easy-going, passionate about Naples, and cared about me. If you like history and enjoy learning about a city, take a tour with Marcello. I highly recommend him.
The tour goes through the highlights of Napoli and its more than two thousand years of history and traditions. Starting from the Monumental district, where you will admire one of the four Royal Palaces of Napoli, the so-called New Castle, built in 1279, the art nouveau style Gallery Umberto I, and the Royal Opera House San Carlo Theatre, the oldest in Europe, we go to the Greek and Roman district, where we have over two thousand years of history. That is the place where you will get the real essence of Napoli. The Seven Works of Mercy, a masterpiece of Caravaggio or the Veiled Christ sculpted in 1753, will take your breath away. The "Majolica Cloister" from the Monastery of Santa Chiara, the 14th frescoes of Giotto or the street art of Banksy is the most amazing contradiction. And that will be just the beginning.
