I was born and raised in Northern Ireland, taught as an English teacher for over thirty years, and have a passion for visiting the places writers lived in, where they worked, and the settings they used in their stories. After arriving in London in 1995, I have grown to love its great churches, theatres - and pubs! My wife and I have raised our family in London, and have travelled widely around the U.K., Europe, and the eastern seaboard of the U.S.. I follow cricket, and have supported Chelsea Football Club since they won the FA Cup in 1970! Now qualified as a Blue Badge Guide, I specialise in literary tours, including giving walking tours in Bloomsbury and following in Shakespeare's footsteps. I also enjoy taking visitors to see such places as Stonehenge and Salisbury, and walking with them around the wonderful city of Bath, with its Roman Baths and elegant Georgian buildings. I enjoy tailoring tours to respond to visitors' special requests, following their interests and enthusiasms, and love opportunities to explore in detail and depth, and to head off the beaten path. I like to engage in conversation and enjoy meeting people from other countries, and finding out about their perspectives on the places we visit together.

This walk meanders through several historic districts, from "The City" to Clerkenwell. We explore three former monasteries, dissolved by Henry VIII; where the Great Uprising of 1381 came to a dramatic end, an execution site, and some stone carvings about distilling London gin - once a major local industry. In addition, we see where the poet John Donne gave sermons, where the artist William Hogarth was born, and where William Shakespeare's plays were presented for licensing. Finally, we have a beautiful former courthouse within sight of where Lenin printed his newspaper, Iskra, in the early twentieth century. Images.
