Hi, my name is Nigel. I am a former History teacher and have been a tour guide in the UK for over 10 years. I believe tour guiding is about sharing knowledge, experiences and stories and having lots of fun along the way! I studied British and American History and Politics at university and have a passion for the history and culture of both countries. I have been very fortunate to have travelled to over 80 countries and have met some remarkable people and some amazing tour guides. I recently worked with the one and only Rick Steves, advising him on his London Travelogue and the next edition of his London Guide Book. I really enjoy creating opportunities for you to explore the amazing places in London and the South of England meeting and speaking with locals and gaining an insight into their way of life. London has been my home for the past 30 years and I have a real passion for this incredible global city. There is so much to experience on foot and on the excellent public transport system. If you are nervous about using the Tube (the subway) or the buses, fear not, I will help you navigate your way to the myriad of wonderful places that London has to offer. If the capital city is your focus, we can tour around the historic sights linked to the British Royal Family in Westminster, explore the ancient City of London with its Roman origins, hear stories of its colourful history and enjoy its spectacular architecture. You can experience the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the Houses Of Parliament, Buckingham and Kensington Palaces, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral, The Southbank, the West End and the East End. My aim is to design a unique, customised tour for you and your fellow travellers. We will tour at a pace to suit you and I am always happy to be flexible and make adjustments to ensure you have a wonderful time on vacation. Outside the capital city, England has so many great places to visit. It's a wonderful country to be a guide as there is so much history and life on the streets of every town and village. There are also a wide range of stunning places just a short journey from Central London. I run single Day Tours to Royal Windsor and Hampton Court using professional drivers and if preferred, local trains. If you have an interest in World War II, the Churchill War Rooms, the RAC museum at Hendon, the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge and Fighter Command HQ are also well worth a visit and within easy reach of central London. For those wanting to experience London's range of gastronomic delights, I offer walking tours to some of London's Historic Pubs and Borough Market with its huge range of international street food. I am really looking forward to meeting you and sharing the many rich experiences that this country can offer. Hope we can make this happen soon! Here are my formal qualifications:- - Bachelor of Arts Degree Joint Honours in History and American Studies (Keele University) - Certificate in Education (Teaching Degree, Keele University) : History and Physical Education I have Public Liability Insurance. There are a small number of historic sites where I am not licensed to guide however there are official "live" guides or audio guides available at the this sites.

Travelling in a comfortable Mercedes Viano, we head for Stratford to visit the many sights of this lovely medieval town set on the banks of the River Avon. I was born and brought up in this area and on this customized tour, we can visit Shakespeare's birthplace, his school and where he was eventually laid to rest. You will hear stories of how his literary talent changed the way we see the world and there is even the opportunity of seeing his work performed by professional Shakespearean actors. near the World famous Swan Theatre. There is the option of visiting his wife's home, Anne Hathaway's beautiful cottage, a short distance outside the town of Stratford and a remarkable insight into Elizabethan domestic life. There are lots of great places to eat and drink and some of the pubs date back to the 16th century when the great man was still around. There is also the option of visiting the local Warwick Castle or for car lovers the amazing British Motor Museum which is also closeby.
The itinerary is very flexible but here is an example of a typical day tour to Stratford:- - Pick up from accommodation in London - Drive to Stratford takes around two hours. - Visit his Birthplace, School and Hall's Croft (home of his daughter) - Lunch in a typical medieval pub, or cafe or coffee/tea shop - Visit Church of the Holy Trinity and Anne Hathaway's cottage (his wife's home) - Return to London early evening There are multiple options for this tour and I can customise it according to your preferences e. g:- There is the option of seeing a play by the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Swan Theatre. This would need to be booked well in advance. Warwick Castle, one of the largest medieval castles in Britain, is 5 miles away. During the summer there are lots of events going at this impressive and well-preserved fortress. Other local attractions include the British Motor Museum at Gaydon. This is home to the world's largest collection of historic British cars
