Windsor Castle, an hour from the centre of London, was the late Queen Elizabeth's favourite residence and is the oldest and longest continually inhabited castle in the world. The old town of Windsor is steeped with history and and wonderful stories and we can spend time wondering around the cobbled streets and browsing the many and varied shops. There is the opportunity to lunch at one of the many excellent cafes or pubs on the banks of the River Thames or in the atmospheric town of Eton, just a stone's throw from Windsor. Eton is a fascinating place, home to the world renowned Eton College with architecture dating back to the 15th century and Runnymede, home of the Magna Carta, is worth a visit on the way back into London.
