Hi, I'm David I was born in London and, apart from a few years, have lived here my whole life in this remarkable city. I have been organising and leading walks for a number of years, more recently focusing on leading walks around London, bringing its stories and secrets to life. I am now a London Blue Badge Guide but for most of my life I was an antique restorer, working mostly with furniture but also on other various works of art. This was work where I increased my appreciation and interest in history and which took me to many impressive homes and interiors, including stately homes and the Houses of Parliament. My Blue Badge qualification, earned after nearly two years of intensive study, allows me to guide Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London and Windsor Castle. There are many other fascinating London locations to visit such as the British Museum, the Churchill War Rooms, watching the Changing of the Guard and numerous museums and galleries including the Victoria & Albert Museum. I can offer walking tours of London with themes such as Roman London, Legal London, Royal London, City of London and Maritime Greenwich. Walking is the best way to see most of London but you can also use various means of public transport such as the Underground ( Tube), buses, black taxi cabs and boats along the Thames. Although a driver is not necessary in London a chauffeured private car is also an option. For those wishing to explore beyond the Capital, as well as Windsor, sites such as Oxford, Hampton Court Palace and Stonehenge are all within an easy journey of London. For these visits travel options include either train or private chauffeured car. London still enthrals me, and, after all these years living here, I still get excited, enthusiastic and inspired about learning something new. I want to share that enthusiasm for one of the greatest cities in the world, telling stories of its many layers of history. Personal Interests. The Romans are the reason London developed in its current location. They arrived almost 2000 years ago, founding the city of Londinium and remained for almost 400 years. Join me and discover the hidden evidence of the Roman's stay and see how they shaped the modern City of London. On this walk we will see some of the remains of this Roman occupation and pass other significant sites such as a temple and an amphitheatre. We will visit at least one location inside (dependent on opening time restrictions). The walking is relatively easy and even.
- Meet at Tower Hill Tube station. - See existing sections of Roman wall. - All Hallows by the Tower Church, with Roman tile flooring. - Billingsgate Roman Baths. - St Magnus the Martyr Church. - Cannon Street - the London Stone. - London Mithraeum - a subterranean temple on the banks of a lost river. - London Guildhall - remains of an amphitheatre. - The tour will finish close to Moorgate Tube Station.
