I am passionate about the Middle Ages and I also have a degree in Art History, so you cannot miss this different and special tour. On the tour we will discover the medieval origins of Madrid and we will visit some places in Old Town that even many locals do not know exist. Several old places remains, like the medieval Muslim wall, narrow streets with curious names of Arab influence or Jewish origins, squares where kings and princesses watched medieval tournaments. We will see the Jewish quarter and the towers of old mosques, now transformed into churches. We'll even discover a secret garden that was the orchard of a convent. Is a journey back in time that is worthy to live to understand deeply the history of this marvellous city. Madrid walls keep a lot of secrets and legends I'll reveal to you. . . Do you know why Madrid is a city of three cultures? Join me in this tour experience: I'll guide you with my knowledge as a local "madrileño" and as a professional expert in history! You'll be in good hands.
-We will start near the Royal Palace, since the city of Madrid began to exist in this place. -We will continue walking to the Cathedral of Almudena and the legends of the Virgin that is inside. I also have some surprises reserved for you, including the mysterious and sinister crypt. -Right in front of the crypt we will continue through the original medieval walls (9th Cent) of the city and enter the narrow streets of the Jewish Quarter or "Judería". We'll visit Plaza del Alamillo and the Plaza de la Paja, places full of history and medieval legends. -Will turn to the Church of San Pedro el Viejo, the oldest church in Madrid: an old mosque and that can still be seen in its walls. -After the Jewish quarter we'll go to the medieval Christian area, until we reach the Plaza Mayor, where rituals of the Spanish Inquisition, markets or knight fights were held. We will also see the Bakery House and other interesting buildings. The itinerary can be adapted to traveller's interests: do no hesitate to contact me!
