Georgi was an excellent tour guide. He customized the tour to our wants and made it enjoyable with facts and trivia along the way. He did everything on our schedule and was willing to make perfect memories of Madrid. It was very hot and Georgi took water breaks along the way and tried to stay in the shade when possible. He knew all the best places for food and shopping. You could see his professionalism every time he spoke about each stop. His research and historical knowledge was very impressive.
Some guides are knowledgeable. Some are entertaining. A very select few leave a lasting impression on you long after the tour ends. Georgi is one of those people.
I can confidently say that Georgi is one of the rare individuals you encounter in life who influences your experience—and perhaps even your perspective—without ever intending to. He is exceptionally intelligent and remarkably well-educated, with the depth of knowledge of a walking encyclopedia. Yet what makes him truly special is how approachable he is. Georgi is warm, energetic, thoughtful, genuinely funny, and incredibly engaging. From the moment we left our hotel, I knew we were in excellent hands.
Our day began among Madrid's iconic landmarks—the Royal Palace, Almudena Cathedral, and the Opera House—before continuing through Plaza Mayor and the city's historic center. The pace was perfect: never rushed, yet packed with fascinating discoveries. Georgi has a gift for transforming ordinary streets, plazas, and buildings into stories you genuinely want to hear. Armed with his signature deck of cards and an endless supply of historical insight, he brought centuries of Madrid's history to life in a way that felt effortless and engaging.
What I especially appreciated was that Georgi never stopped at the obvious. Beyond the major landmarks, he always seemed to have a hidden story, a surprising fact, or a quiet corner of the city to share. Some of our favorite moments came from these unexpected discoveries—places and details we would never have found on our own. Even a simple snack stop near Puerta del Sol became a memorable part of the day because of the stories and context he provided along the way.
The highlight of our time together was undoubtedly The Prado Museum. Although it's hard to believe in retrospect, Georgi guided us through nearly 100 masterpieces. Somehow, what could have felt overwhelming instead felt captivating from beginning to end. He expertly connected each work to its artist, historical period, cultural significance, and the societal or religious forces that influenced its creation. More importantly, he helped us understand why these works mattered. Under Georgi's guidance, The Prado became much more than a collection of paintings—it became a living narrative of Spain's history and identity.
His enthusiasm was contagious. Looking back, I could have happily spent several more hours wandering the museum with him. We absorbed every story, every detail, and every insight he shared. In fact, when we visited the Reina Sofía the following day, we both found ourselves wishing Georgi were there with us. We genuinely missed his company, his perspective, and his ability to make art and history come alive.
Thank you, Georgi, for your friendship, your generosity, and for sharing your city with us. The next time we're in Spain, we'll be calling you again—this time for Toledo.

Georgi is an outstanding guide and one of our favorites from our time in Spain. He has a wealth of knowledge and tells stories so the information sticks with you.
