My name is Orquidea and I am a private local guide here in Porto, Portugal, numerous winner of "Best European Destination!" I am Portuguese and have lived here my whole life. I became a tour guide because I love meeting foreigners, showing them my country, giving them an insight to Portuguese history, food and culture with informative and personalized tours. Although Portugal is small, it is very diverse allowing you an incredible opportunity to discover all that it has to offer; excellent architecture, delicious food & wine, exciting festivals, great weather, hospitable people and much more and I am here to help experience all of these! I offer tours throughout northern Portugal (Porto, Douro Valley, Guimaraes, Braga, Viana do Castelo, to name a few) and into the centre by request (Coimbra, Aveiro, Fatima, Obidos, Nazare, Lisbon). Not only will you visit the highlights but you will witness the locals, how they live, what they eat, their customs and how the regions have been shaped to reflect by these. There is no shortage of reasons to visit the Douro Valley, one of the most stunning landscapes in all of Portugal producing the famous port wine and more recently excellent table wines. On this tour we will drive to the breathtaking Douro Valley by private van, first stopping in Amarante where we will see the beautiful Roman Bridge and St. Goncalo Cathedral. After having a coffee and traditional pastry of this region, we will continue through Regua to Pinhao to witness the traditional train station adorned with tiles depicting the lifestyle of the locale. Next we will be welcomed at an award winning winery for a tour of the estate, an explanation of the production, harvest and transportation of port wine followed by a special lunch prepared by the Chef paired with the estate's wine. To complete this experience, a tasting of the different port wines! Come join me in this amazing day!
Orquidea Barros is an excellent guide. Her knowledge of the Douro Valley was great. She spoke wonderful English and provided us with insights to the valley that only a local could give. The tour of the small local winery with a chef prepared meal was a highlight of the day. She went above what we expected.
We had a great two days tour of Douro Valley with overnight in Peso de Regua. The wine/port tasting at Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta do Portal were great, both also have great lunch offerings. Orquidea is an expert in the area, vey knowledgeable and also able to tweak the itinerary if guests request changes. Douro Valley as presented by Orquidea has extraordinary views, unique - we were amazed at every turn (and there are many of them...). Vlad

What a beautiful location and beautiful tour and beautiful tour guide! She was fabulous and we came to think of her as a friend in Portugal! She selected a wonderful family owned winery for our tasting with such a sweet owner with her winery tour (hand harvested, no irrigation, foot stomping?) and a fabulous wine paring lunch! She did great picture stops and so much great information! Couldn't have asked more of Orquida even though the weather was not cooperative! She made it sunny in our hearts!

Orquidea was an exceptional tour guide. Very well informed and accomodating. She shoed us many places on the way to Douro Valley. I will highly recommed her and when our kids visit Porto we will book her again
-Pick up at port, hotel or specific location requested. -Drive to Amarante, visit the church, Roman Bridge and have a coffee and pastry at the riverside cafe. -Continue through Regua and Pinhão where you will visit a wine estate and vineyard for a tour, lunch and wine tasting. -Enjoy the scenic drive back to Porto.
