Hi! My name is Paulo and I was born and raised in OPORTO/MIAMI and DOURO VALLEY. AWARDED the INTERNACIONAL SOMMELIER CERTIFICATE Foundation Level. (Theory, Blind tasting Practical Service ) from the UNITED STATES SOMMELIER Association at Wine School at Johnson &Wales University AND accredited by the Court Of MASTER SOMMELIER and Gastronomy. After successfully completing two-years at the professional Hotel Beverage School, I Graduated in 1988. I started my career in the Hospitality Industry on the MADEIRA Island, then I moved to MIAMI to work on cruise ships as Sommelier. I went ahead with my career and became HEAD SOMMELIER , responsible for the development of wine lists and delivery of Wine service. Meanwhile, I GRADUATED from the WINE SCHOOL at Johnson & Wales University in Miami and AWARDED FROM the INTERNACIONAL Sommelier CERTIFICATE Foundation Level, by the United States SOMMELIER Association. I kept working on cruise ships until I decided to move to LONDON to 3 Michelin Restaurant for a while and then to go back to Portugal. Here, I started using my knowledge and experience to show my country and its culture to the travellers and I became a private tour guide. There is no shortage of places worth visiting in a region that encompasses two world heritages - the Alto Douro Wine Region. Its beauty is born in equal fractions of supernatural generosity .
The Duoro Valley is definitely worth the day trip required to visit. Paulo picked us up from our Gaia hotel and we went directly to our first Sandeman tasting. Our early arrival although we drove at 80-100kmh the whole way allowed us to beat the crowd and do the premier 10,20,30, 40 year tasting After a cozy lunch we visited Dow before returning to the hotel at a similar speed. It was a great day in Duoro Valley.
This is a wonderful tour. My wife and I got to see the beautiful Douro valley and had two fabulous wine tastings plus stopped for lunch. Our tour guide Paulo Alexandre Lopes was excellent. He is very knowledgeable and knows where to go and stop for the best views of the valley. We highly recommend this tour who has limited time and really wants to taste superb wines.
Paulo is very friendly and an excellent, safe driver. He is very knowledgeable in the valley and wine with a great attitude. We throughly enjoyed the experience, choosing Paulo as our guide was the perfect decision

A Great tour with Paulo. A sommelier who took us to all of the great vineyards in the Douro Valley. We sampled Port wines, toured some historic wine country and ate at some charming local restaurants along the way. Highly recommended tour, ask for Paulo. Thanks my friend
Paulo was a tremendous guide- definitely top 1% we have used. He was early for our pick-up, his vehicle was clean and comfortable, he was super friendly and knowledgable on the Douro Valley and wineries there (he trained as a sommelier), he knew the staff at the wineries (he arranged so that we got the most enthusiastic and engaging staff at the winery after our first one seemed to be a dud) and restaurants, and made our day and experience one to remember. He enjoyed talking about his and our family, his passions (wine, soccer and travel) and knew when to give us space and when to engage. I can't recommend Paulo highly enough, and hope you enjoy your day with him as much as we did.
