Barcelos, famous for its rooster legend and image which is depicted all over Portugal, has a lovely historical centre and one of the country's largest outdoor markets selling fresh local produce, flowers, linens, clothes, shoes, wicker, ceramics and homewares (only on Thursdays). If not market, you will wander the streets and dig deeper into the local lifestyle here. Next, you will visit Portugal's oldest town of Ponte de Lima, a Roman influenced town with picturesque manor homes and a few modest palaces. The highlight is the Roman bridge spanning the river displaying its 24 arches. Here too you will find local handicrafts of linen, tin, wicker and carpets. Arriving to the coastal town Viana do Castelo with a pristine centre and one of the "best 360 panoramic views" (by National Geographic), you will view the town from the hillside which is also graced with Santa Luzia Basilica and in the backdrop, a palace turned hotel (pousada). This is a wonderful mix of sites in a relaxing inviting environment!
We enjoyed our day with Miguel, visiting the small towns and countryside on this tour. Miguel is knowledgeable and personable, quite simply a pleasure to spend a day with. He met us at the airport and dropped us off in the afternoon at our accommodations. It was a great way to spend our first day in Portugal. Thank you Miguel. đ
Miguel was a fantastic guide! We were able to plan the tour on a Thursday so we could walk through the market in Barcelos. So much fun. Ponte de Lima was beatiful as well as Viana do Castelo. A wonderful day trip from Porto.
Our 3rd or 3 tours with Miguel was once again a real delight. We were in Barcelos for the incredible Thursday market. Wow! What else can I say? Only one our group had the endurance to climb to the top of the St. Luzia Basilica near Viana do Castelo, but we enjoyed time inside the church and just enjoying the structure and the views. A delightful day despite a couple of us being a bit under the weather. Miguel moved at our pace--even making a pharmacy run on my behalf. Portuguese hospitality abounds!

We engaged Miguel for five and one days. We had him create a custom itinerary for all 5 days. He was very good communicating with us by email in advance. Executed tours beautifully modifying the days based on crowds, traffic, and weather to optimize our time. One of the best guides we have had three years and 20 plus guides.
For the second year running, we enjoyed an exceptional day with Miguel. He is knowledgeable, accommodating and like being with someone you've known a long time.
