Hi, my name is Afonso and I'll be your host! I was born at the West of Portugal, at a beach close to Peniche and raised between this region and the north of Portugal at a small village called Chaves. I moved then to Porto to take my degree in Tourism. During the following years I have worked in big events production and 14 years ago I moved to Gstaad - a fancy Ski Resort at the Suisse Alps. During the winter I still escort my guests through the amazing landscape of The Alps doing one of my passions - snowboarding. Due to my connection to different regions of Portugal, during the last years I've started being more interested in Gastronomy and Wines and particularly by the Douro Region, so in 2018 and after taking the level 1 of the course WSET - Wine and Spirits Education Trust I've launched the Douro Call Experience - a non-touristic tour through the outstanding landscapes of the Douro region, plenty of wine and local food! I have depth knowledge of my country, a warm personality and a great sense of humour and I'm also passionate for photography, surfing and travelling. I love welcoming guests at my country and be able to share stories and experiences, while enjoying an amazing landscape and world class wine! Overview of your Porto tour
Vinho Verde is one of my favorite wines and I hope that after this tour where knowledge and experiences will be shared, will be one of yours. Our day will be passed at the Monção and Melgaço region, at the northwest point of Portugal which is one of my favorite wine regions. Along the day we will discover this Region Demarcated back in 1908 and where the unique and one of the most popular types of Portuguese Wine is produced: Vinho Verde. Here the Alvarinho varietal has its origin and started its evolution. Our day will start at Monção where we will visit a hidden family-run winery. Here, we will learn more about the vinho verde wine production and end with an amazing private tasting of wines and cheese. After lunch, we will explore the other side of the region, the valley of Melgaço. Here we are going to visit one of the most renowned vinho verde producers and do a second tasting of wines while enjoying a panoramic view over the valley, the mountains and the typical Minho Houses.
Your Porto tour itinerary
- Our day will be passed at the outstanding landscapes of the Minho Region, between Monção and Melgaço and which is one of the nine sub-regions of the Vinho Verde DOC. - Visit and tasting at a hidden and family-run winery, including visit to the warehouse and a private tasting of wines and cheese. - After lunch (at a local restaurant) we will explore another part of this wine region, the valley of Melgaço. - Visit one of the most renowned vinho verde producers, pioneers in this type of wines and an international reference. - At this winery we will do a second tasting - the Territories Wine Tasting Experience and which includes: - Visit to the herbal tea fields - Visit to the winery First Vineyard - Visit to the Winery and Innovation Cellar - Panoramic view with interpretation of the Monção and Melgaço Valley - Premium tasting of 7 wines - Pur Terroir herbal tea tasting The driving time between Porto and the Minho Region is around 1h30 without traffic.
