Overview of your Warsaw tour
Once WW2 was over, Poland found itself in the communist zone, under the influence of USSR. It was the whole new political situation and a very important moment in our history, which shaped our life for the next 45 years. During this tour I will tell you about both political and daily life in the communist country. If you are interested in what it was like to live in communism, I will be glad to tell you the story. I remember that very well. On one hand I remember queuing for everything for hours (my personal record was 8 hours in a line simply to buy bread before Christmas), I remember the lack of goods of all kinds and Russian coupons for basic grocery or petrol. On the other hand that was a time of a happy childhood. It was really quite interesting sociological experiment. I will try to share with you quite a comprehensive look into this era based on my personal experience. We will also talk about a huge impact of this era on our society as well as our economy, culture and architecture.
Your Warsaw tour itinerary
During WW2, Warsaw was destroyed in more than 80%. It was a tremendous loss in city infrastructure. At the same time it became a new opportunity to build the whole new modern town with a strong socrealist look. During this tour you will see the following places: - Palace of Culture & Science - the most spectacular example of socrealism style in Warsaw architecture - former Headquarter of the Communist Party - MDM - the first living neighbourhood built very much in communist style - Museum of Rev. Popieluszko where we talk about the role of the Catholic church and we tell the story of one of the priests killed by the communists - Museum "Life in Communist Poland" where we talk about every day life in communist times - we pass by the prison where the Polish communists were killing Poles after WW2 was over It is like travel back in time, really a unique experience.
