People have strong feelings about whether they want to visit Auschwitz and Birkenau. My husband couldn't imagine going to Poland and not going to those sites of horror. My friend, who had Jews in her family exterminated, couldn't imagine being able to cope with a visit to those sites of horror. Marta made a trip for all of us. As we drove from Warsaw, through the Polish countryside, she talked to us. Then we dropped Alan off at the Museum. The three of us spent four hours in the area, including a really fun visit to an outdoor museum that showcases Polish architecture from the last couple of centuries. Then we drove to Krakow. Had a lovely dinner on the old town square. Then Marta took us to the amazing market there. Then the drive home. Throughout the really long day, she shared her country with us. The highlight of our time in Poland.
