Hello! My name is Jola. I live in Warsaw and I am fascinated with this place. That's why, some 20 years ago, I decided to study Warsaw history, architecture, culture, etc. to become a fully-qualified city guide. Some time ago, after years spent in international corporations, I gave it up and became a full-time tour guide. I've also engaged, as a volunteer, in documenting architectural details of old tenement houses in Warsaw and regular cleaning works on the historical Jewish cemetery. I love traveling, meeting new people, discovering different cultures and traditions. I am easy going and energetic person, passionate about sharing my knowledge and experience with other people. I always try to make my guests feel like they're spending time with a friend. I'm eager to share with you my passion for Warsaw. I'd like to tell you the story of the rich, elegant city which almost disappeared from the Earth during WW2, but then was reborn like the Phoenix , the city formed by the communists in accordance with their ideology, the city that changed completely its face after 1989. I'd like to follow with you the traces of Frederic Chopin, Maria Curie, Icchak Singer, admire beautiful royal residences: Wilanow and Lazienki, and visit the places perfect for taking a deep breath and relax. If I asked my guests for their biggest surprise in Warsaw they would probably say "Praga!". Some twenty years ago it was the most neglected and most dangerous district. My friend who has lived there for many years was treated as a kind of hero ;-) Today the area changed totally. It's safe, lively and colorful. Every time I drop by there I discover a new wall painting, a newly-open café, or a small shop run by a local craftsman. On the other hand, it's the only part of Warsaw that was almost not destroyed during WW2 - some streets are natural scenography for historical films ("The Pianist" by Polanski). I will take you for a walk around old, pre-war tenement houses with magical courtyards and small shrines, in the area full of street art on the building walls, fences and pavements. We won't miss the local icons, like Koneser - a famous former vodka factory, renovated lately and transformed into a modern lifestyle center. You can also taste some local food and drink (optional).
This was our second tour with Jola and we are so glad that we chose her again. She is truly an exceptional person and tour guide. We leaned a great deal due to her being so well-informed and the way she responded to our many questions. She has a delight personality and is fun to be with.
Jola was an extremely knowledgeable and accommodating guide. She answered all our questions and was kind enough to move the tour by one day so that we could all avoid walking in the heavy rain. We enjoyed our morning with Jola and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her.
I will repeat the review I already gave for the Jewish tour in Warsaw. Jola was an excellent guide. She gave me very thorough background information before each tour I took. She was very knowledgeable about anything I asked her. She was also a lovely person to spend time with. I would recommend her highly and would use her services again if I ever come back to Warsaw.
The "Colors of the Praga District" tour with Jola W. was the highlight of our trip to Warsaw. Jola is a great guide with excellent organization, in-depth knowledge, and a true love for the city and it's people. With this tour we are able to see the history, art, and spirit of the polish people rather than focusing on the actions of occupying forces throughout history. We highly recommend this tour, and we plan to contact Jola for another tour when we return to Warsaw.
Jola gave me an amazing insight into probably one of the most interesting tours out of the typical "tourists' map". It was a great and enlightening experience, full of interesting details about the Praga district and it's history.
Jola is very knowledgeable of Warsaw and Polish history and culture. When seeking a private tour, Jola was the only one that responded with a proposed agenda based on my specific interests. I really appreciated the amount of planning, preparation, and research she put into our tour of Praga. I got to see remarkable murals by global artists, THE black market, and a wide range of art and architecture.
