There are several significant things which make Kraków unique: - HISTORY - Kraków was the capital city of Poland for several centuries, it was Royal Residence, centre of politics, culture and education therefore the most important events in Polish history took place here. Pope John Paul II said: Here you can hear the heart of Poland beating. - AUTHENTICITY & ATMOSPHERE - Kraków was never destroyed in fights, not even in WWII, that's why all the monuments here are original, some are dated back even to XI century. Being among so many historical buildings makes you feel the heritage of past generations. - JEWISH HERITAGE - Jews had been living in Krakow for hundreds of years, almost from the begining of its history. For all this time they contributed to the developement of Krakow's wealth and heritage. Despite the tragic fate of Jewish community, you can still see numerous traces of their longlasting presence in the town. The aim of this tour is to show you places which prove how unique Krakow is!
9:00 - meeting in the hotel, walking to the Wawel Hill, visiting the cathedral and castle courtyards, possible coffee break on Wawel Hill 11:00 - walking towards Market Square, visiting St. Mary's Basilica and watching breathtaking ceremony of the opening of Veit Stoss altarpiece 12:00 - visiting Market Square and University District (Cloth Hall, St. Francis Church, Jagiellonian University) 13:00 - 14:30 - lunch break (the break can be shorter or we can skip and continue to Kazimierz) 15:00 - walking to Kazimierz District, former Jewish Town, visiting Remuh Synagogue and cemetry, wandering around streets of Jewish town to see other synagogues and traces of Jewish culture 16:00 - end of the tour POSSIBLE ETXENSION: walk to Podgórze district where during WWII Germans established the ghetto, that part of the town is related to the tragic end of Jewish community in Krakow (wall of the ghetto, memorial to Krakow Jews murdered during WWII). If you wish to extend tour let me know and we will discuss details.
