Preparing this tour I wanted to show the footsteps of the Krakow Jews, to begin with, their best times in the 15th c. to the most tragic history of their extermination. Jewish history and traditions can be seen mainly in the Kazimierz Jewish district in which there are still 7 synagogues and some prayer houses, a cemetery, mikvah, and some houses remembering this famous Krakow group of residents. During World War II, Krakow Jews were transferred to the right side of the Vistula and locked in the ghetto. Following the holocaust story selections were held and Jews were sent to extermination camps. Over 1000 Jews found work and help in Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory. The story was brought into the limelight in 1993 by Steven Spielberg's film Schindler's List. Today Schindler's Factory Museum presents the exhibition Kraków under Nazi Occupation 1939-1945 is presented. I'm eager to discover the stories of people who lived and died as a result of Nazi policy. I would like to preserve their existence there.
- Our journey will start in the heart of the Old Jewish quarter at Szeroka Street. - We will start visiting an operating Remuh Synagogue and oldest Jewish Cemetery, walk along Szeroka Street passing by other Synagogues and old mikvah (ritual bath house). - We will follow Jozefa Street, Jewish Market with local slaughter house for kosher meet production, Izaak Synagogue with Chabad Lubavitch center, Tempel Synagogue and complex of Jewish Community Center. - Lunch time with traditional Jewish cuisine - After seeing Kazimierz we will cross the bridge to get the place where the Nazis organized a ghetto for the Jewish people. - We will see buildings connected to the Krakow Ghetto existence and spots where ghetto liquidation story was held - The Ghetto' Heroes Square. - 'Schindler's Factory Museum' to see the exhibition 'Kraków under Nazi Occupation 1939-1945' - Coffee Break - in the museum. - On the way back we will see a fragment of the original ghetto walls and see a fragment of the historical Ghetto space.
