Preparing this tour I wanted to show the best times of Jews in Kraków, in the 15th c. Jewish history and traditions can be seen mainly in the Kazimierz Jewish district in which there are still 7 synagogues and some prayer houses, a cemetery, mikvah, and some houses remembering this famous Krakow group of residents. During World War II, Krakow Jews were transferred to the right side of the Vistula and locked in the ghetto and it was the end of their presence in the city. during the first part of our tour we will discover the stories of people who lived in the Jewish Kazimierz, their customs and traditions. The second part will be connected to the tragic years of the World War II, when the Jewish life in Kraków was ended.
- Our journey will start in the heart of the Old Jewish quarter at Szeroka Street. - We will start visiting an operating Remuh Synagogue and oldest Jewish Cemetery (on Saturday, when the Synagogue is closed we can visit a museum in an Old Synagogue), - we will take a walk along Szeroka Street – Szeroka Street is the heart of Jewish Kazimierz, and a testimony to its significance. We will be passing by other Synagogues and old mikvah (ritual bath house). The entry is impossible on Saturdays. - We will follow Jozefa Street, Jewish Market with local slaughter house for kosher meat production, Izaak Synagogue with Chabad Lubavitch center, Tempel Synagogue and complex of Jewish Community Center. - after crossing the Vistula River we are going to visit the Kraków Ghetto site. The nazis made an exception with the Kraków Ghetto creation locating Ghetto outside the Jewish residential area.
