My name is Lene, I'm 60 years old and born in Oslo. I'm educated as an engineer with a degree within economics, and got my diploma as an Authorized Oslo Guide in the year 2000. I have worked with tourists for 26 years now, and my favorite tours are the customized ones. I love to show my city and the sorrundings from all different angles - through history and storytelling, foodtasting, museums and streetart, crime- and ghostwalks, and everything that has to do with nature (walks, hikes and bicycle tours). I'm passionate about my work, and love getting in contact with people from all over the world. I like to tell the history in my way, sharing personal stories from my own life and my parents / grandparents life (I'm the 3.generation from Oslo). Funny or horrible stories are also a part of it, so that you maybe remember something when you come home... :) In Norway you need a professional driver license to drive guests for payment. My tours are therefor either by public transportation, foot or bike, or we can hire a car with a driver.

Lene was a terrific guide. Her knowledge and love of Oslo made for a wonderful day. We walked, took public transportation and enjoyed pastries at a local bakery, a food court (with many food options), and a waffle shop that was definitely off the beaten path. We traveled across the city and experienced a local snapshot of Oslo. (Lene even helped me find a “Haaland” Norwegian soccer kit for my grandson.) We ended the day with a visit to the Oslo National Library…a vibrant meeting place that was uniquely Norwegian. We highly recommend spending a day with Lene.

We enjoyed two unforgettable tours with Lene while we were in Oslo. She made the most of every minute taking us on well-planned and organized adventures. She oriented us to Oslo-- its history, transportation resources, art, and of course much of the local dishes. Fjords, ferry rides, the opera house, historic islands, and cheese & salmon cuisine were just some of the excitements! Lene is truly an amazing guide and Oslo expert.

Lene was a wonderful guide. She was very knowledgeable and had a lot of interesting information about the history of Norway and Oslo. She took me to some authentic local restaurants for delicious food. I also enjoyed talking with Lene. She is a very kind and soulful person and made it a very special day for me. Thank you Lene. I will definitely use Tours by Locals on my next vacation.

Your Oslo tour itinerary

We'll start on the Westside of Oslo, visiting our capitals most important areas. Our first foodstop will be at a cozy cafe with the possibility to try local coffee and the traditional "Lefse". Continuing on foot along the fiord we'll have our next stop at the roof of the Opera House - built like an iceberg rising up from the sea. After climbing up you can enjoy the view while trying "Kvikk lunsj" - the Norwegian "hiking-chocolate". This is the snack we always bring in our backpack when we hike, crosscountry ski or spend time in nature. From the Central Station a tram takes us to Grunerløkka on the Eastside, the earlier workingclass area which is gentrified today. There will be a lot of options to try traditional food in the Vulkan Foodhall (fishsoup, fishcake, "Tørrfisk", beer and akevitt, different sausages and cheeses, flatbreat and jam, icecream) The dessert is a surprise served outside in one of the parks in the area, before we go back to the city by tram. . . Godt måltid :)
